Personally I think its looking pretty good, So what do you guys think, are any of you currently using clones?

>> No.796065

>>796001
Not a fan of clones. It's easy enough to find original hardware, which supports all of the technically impressive games of that era

>> No.796082

Isn't this the clone console that's basically emulating with android?

Disgusting

>> No.796092

I do not see the point in it. I suppose there's a niche that it fills, but it seems entirely redundant to me. If you have carts, you probably have the system. You don't even get the benefit of using an actual cartridge in terms of accuracy, since the clone is just emulating.

>want to get into classic gaming now
>check eBay and Craigslist for all the consoles
>everybody wants $50-$100+ for each system (except the GBA, unless it's the GOOD version of the SP)

Gee, I can't figger why anyone would want one.

I'll buy one even though I have multiples of every system in it sans Famicom (but I have an adapter, ho ho).

>> No.796203

My roommate and I have a Retron 2 so we'll prolly upgrade to this.

If you're paying that much for any of these systems you're getting ripped off. You need to buy the games as well, which especially in the case of the SNES, can end up being more expensive than the actual system. If your problem is money, buying this isn't going to solve anything, and you may as well just emulate on your PC.

>> No.796205

I wish Pat was dead

>> No.796532

Might as well just emulate it at that point, but it's good for people who want to collect the games and be able to play them without forking over money for a console

A lot of NES and Genesis games are going for decent prices though.
SNES and N64 are 101% fucked right now

I'm seriously wondering if Hyperkin is viral marketing on /vr/

>> No.796561

>>796546
Well, /vr/ would be the near-prime marketing location, but they wouldn't have to work hard, not that you can tell by all the autistic people who cannot comprehend how a 4(+1) in 1 console with HDMI output that plays real carts and uses original controllers can be a good thing.

IF NOTHING ELSE, IT WILL DRIVE DOWN THE PRICE OF THE ACTUAL CONSOLES.

NO

There is absolutely NO LEGITIMATE reason why anyone with a functioning brain would buy one of these shitstations.

You can either go with the convenience of emulators or the full genuine experience of the real hardware. Both are respectable choices for intelligent human beings. This shit is the worst of both worlds. It's LESS accurate than a good PC emulator and has all the inconvenience of a real console.

There is NO defendable use case for it!

>> No.799718

>>799712
Actually, now that these are running on Android, it could be possible to rip the SRAM from your cartridges and keep your original saves forever. That's assuming the company making this is smart enough both to think of doing this and how to. I'm sure it could be done, theoretically, but it's the only reason I would ever be interested in buying one of these.

>> No.799938

I already have multiple copies of all the official consoles, so I wouldn't really get one of these besides for the novelty or to save some space.

I have all the emulators on my android phone, I can hook it up with HDMI to my TV and play with a wireless controller, and it would be 10 times more accurate in emulation. I don't see the point of this.

>> No.799939

>>796001
Retron is an emulator, not a clone. It does not implement anything in hardware, except possibly the (ARM7) GBA.

So you're not only incompetent, but ignorant. When the first NES clones started spreading far and wide, reseller shops quit charging $80 for NES systems. You can buy them for $40 without much hassle, even in this market hell.

Seems cool, but I'll have to see for sure when it comes out. If it can't play Shantae and Starfox 1 & 2 100% then I'm not bothering.

I also generally prefer the original hardware... however I might consider investing in one of these units in the future if they could continue to find ways to offer little improvements over the original hardware. I'm not talking emulator video filters... but say offering modern video/audio output like component or even HDMI. Modders who know what they're doing and aren't afraid to open up the original hardware and solder in components have been able to add stuff like that, but what about the less adventurous old school gamers who'd also like to have those kind of extra custom features?

What else... I'm not sure if any of these clone/emulator manufacturers have started in on the later consoles with optical drives yet, but if/when they do, perhaps having lasers that are better able to deal with scratched discs would be something to explore.

The system the OP linked to has a bluetooth controller. Stuff like like.
