I'm like 2/5 done with X-Wing, what should I know before I start Tie Fighter?

cool. Its crazy how long X-wing is. the campaign has like SIXTY missions, it's insane.

get the collectors edition, it runs at double the resolution (640x480) instead of 320x240, it makes it all a bit easier to enjoy. Also collectors edition should have all the bugfixes and extra missions.

oh I already have the 1995 collecters edition all set up. In fact I got it running well with a joystick so if anyone needs help getting it running just ask

I never finished X-Wing. The Death Star missions are really hard.
TIE fighter retains almost everything good about the original while improving on it.

That they just ported it to X-Wing Alliance with VR support.

320x200. 240 isn't a thing on PC.

The only mission in Tie Fighter that's as hard as the Death Star in X-Wing is the one where Harkov tries to have you killed.

yeah but it sucks dick when it comes to the based menus.
at least with this its confirmed that XWUA is probably coming to a close soon and Tie Fighter is next.

Why would the Alliance Upgrade team do that when it has just been completed by another team, using their tools? or do you suggest that they mod the old ass tie Fighter engine? lmao

>> No.7957523

get the regular version. the soulless CGI of the collector's edition sucks ass.

I meant the XWVA
which is the upgrade for Xwing and Tie 98

also its a source port built on top of the recompiled engine to read the files.

The expansions fill in the story which lead into Tie Fighter. I think you will like Tie Fighter a lot more since the conditions for success is a lot more lenient.

Can't wait until they manage to get co-op working.

>> No.7959907

Very, it's mostly a direct port of mission files and assets of the original Tie Fighter into the XWA engine. You can even select for a version faithful to the original or one with some tweaked missions.

Nice. I guess I'll give it a go sometime.

tie fighter was so cool to me when it was a new game. it felt so vividly in the star wars universe, and the depth of detail in the craft and the mission briefings, and the story sequences in this with grand admiral thrawn. such a cool game

The early years of the Extended Universe were pretty great.

>4. Checked and approved by Lucas.
>8. All Star Wars material fit perfectly into this continuity from 1978-2014.
I mean the general sentiment is not wrong but that's a little bit of a stretch.
