Crispy Doom is all that you need for that. It has some quality of life options you can turn on, like color fixed blood for cacos and barons, and it also has jumping and freelook, but for an authentic run you oughtn't use those two.
I think also it may have some sort of Brightmap support, which is a feature that I think looks sick as fuck in any resolution and renderer.

Like someone else said, anything that isn't for ZDoom or Eternity. Some examples are Vanilla Doom Smooth Weapons, Black Ops, Smoothed Doom, Doom Sprite Fix, Perk's Hi-Res SFX. Don't load custom guns/monsters if the map pack already has custom guns/monsters unless you know what you're doing (download a program called Slade and you can open up doom2.wad and other wads and see what's inside so you can see if you can use a mod with a mappack)

I finished up the last few maps in DoE.
The multi rockets are sublime. Truly outstanding.
I liked the new map themes, and generally things were pretty well put desinged. Except for the penultimate map, where you had to just walk into some metal rods ("""buttons""") to create a bridge. Took a while to work that one out.

I've started typing up a list of enemy variants with relevant PD2 settings. It will be both reference for a randomizer modifier and a consistency guide for mappers (though I won't force you to use it). Should have the first draft of it up tomorrow. Got a few more model ideas like saddled Demons with Knight jockeys and power shield (death) knights, but I'm not sure if those are worth the time. Things like laser Centroids and stronger, faster, albino Gremlins should be easy though. Hopefully I'll continue to have a decent amount of free time for this, but there's no telling.

Was doing dumb stuff with cheats last week on the main testing map and discovered that Gremling can indeed reproduce when feeding on both the DoE StatueKnights and the PhantomSwords (despite those monsters being considered inorganic) and I swear that they sometimes do tried to feed on the dead Armagons robot legs too, but it always ended in failure (also even though the testing map has multiple Armagons in it, the Gremlins will ignore all other leftover SoA boss corpses upon failing to consume any of them - and the 'eaten' walker legs dont even dissapear when that happens at all, they just lose interest in them like they arent there anymore) - is there any way to make all 'inorganic' monster corpes an invalid taget for the Gremlins reproduction behaviour?

I can see where he's coming from though. Pirate Doom uses Vanilla speed weapon switching so if you're trying to use the cutlass to kill shit and you pick up a gun and slowly switch to it, and then slowly switch back, that's about 4 or 5 seconds where you're not attacking and you might eat shit during that window.

Really his only options are dealing with it or cracking the mod open in SLADE and fiddling with weapon flags.

The real problem is the weapons had to be nerfed as the creatures got fewer in number. Doom 1 and 2 are iconic because for the first time in gaming history, guns acted like guns. They didn't just do squat to give you something to chip away at like chopping down a large tree with a primitive axe. The bent the game over your knee, spanked it's inner child and slaughtered anyone who witnessed you doing it and had a problem with it. They violated the smug pride of all unstoppable evil and pushed them back into Hell where they belonged. But graphics sell games so the number of creatures had to shrink massively and the power of the weapons had to approach foam ball to give you enough time during a fight.

It's a PD2 thing for the 'berserk' setting. Basically the monster's pain animation is ignored when it's enabled. Don't know why it would give a warning though.

As for the rest of warnings that aren't related to SUB_Null, you just have to add entity attacker, float damage to the functions called by self.owner.th_pain, like so:
void() tbaby_mitosis in tarbaby.qc lacks those parameters. Add them to the definitions in line 216 and 262, and do the same for each warning that you get. Don't ask me why do the parameter's arguments never get used, it just seems to shut the compiler up and that's all I care about. Far as I know even vanilla monsters do the same even if they do absolutely nothing with attacker and damage arguments.

Because th_pain is defined as having two arguments (attacker and total_damage). Normally thats how monsters determine whether to go into their pain animation or not. SUB_Null has no arguments (void). Okay, I don't know why can't I read the status of the Hipnotic powerup items the same as the Rogue ones but I hacked together a solution anyway.

I'm glad to hear you're warming up to Arti's new default set. As for the pistol's altfire, it's actually insanely overpowered, with proper usage you can drop most enemies with a single shot. It just has awful range, so either save it as a panic button or use it really aggressively by getting right up in their face before pulling the trigger.
It also deletes enemy projectiles, so you can use it defensively too.

Just beat the first episode of Dissolution of Eternity. I had been putting it off for a while after not enjoying myself very much at all the first time I tried it, alongside the very end of map 5 or so glitching out and leaving me unable to finish it and without a previous save. I pretty much forced myself to blitz through it on normal, and I still safely stay I'm not a fan of it. The levels aren't bad, but the first few are a bit needlessly difficult, especially the first one by hiding the double-barrel until the end of it unless you're aware of a secret. That and just WAY too much fucking platforming, especially map 5 with that section with 4 switches on a painfully slow-moving platform. On the flip-side, though, the latter levels are just too dang easy and you're literally drowning in the upgraded ammo for all your guns, most notable the multi-rockets which just mince pretty much everything.
I will say I enjoyed the new enemies, minus the fucking new Spawn variants, fuck whoever did that, and a proper final boss to cap the episode off was nice.

Just joshing ya. That's actually exactly how I remember DoE; first few challenging levels of episode 1, rest of it was piss easy with absurdly obvious secrets. Episode 2 is more enjoyable, but the final boss is pretty bad. On nightmare it's probably among the hardest bosses in video games if you don't abuse a particular trick. I still quite enjoy DoE and hope you come out of this feeling positively. Even running through it right now I'm having a good time. I don't know if you saw my post on Travail last thread, but you should check it out when you finish with DoE instead of Abyss of Pandemonium (which I also greatly enjoy but is objectively hit or miss in worse ways than DoE)

And there goes episode 2 of DoE. Much better than the first. Played it on Hard and had a pretty fun experience. The Egypt theme got kind of old and the repeat of the Guardians as the end of level bosses got repetitive, but the levels themselves made up for it, even if I missed more than half the secrets.
Final boss sucked, yeah, but he looked cool, which was enough for me. Seeing a Mini-Chton pop out of the lava for the first time in level 3 was really awesome as well. Probably never going to play E1 ever again, but I'll likely come back to E2 every once in a while or if I ever feel like finding every secret.

Base Ganymede is easier than Doom2. That's not to say it's bad, it's actually much better than Doom2 for a lot of reasons, it's just Doom 2 can be harder because of its jankiness like the Chasm

Same with Plutonia. Plutonia is way harder than Valiant. I haven't finished Ancient Aliens so I can't say if it's harder than Plutonia but it's harder than Valiant also.

Thanks to the anons for recommending me Crispy Doom, I'm having a fine time going through the original Doom game taking the best of my time to find secrets currently on Phobos Labs. I wanted to take a break from the original campaign and I'm curious to know if there are any mods compatible with Crispy Doom? I wanted to try out Final Doomer again but I guess the pk3 is not compatible with the port unless there's another file type available to use. Pic's not really Doom related but it's semi related in my decision to jump back into Doom lately as originally I wanted to boot Renegade back up after running into compatibility troubles with Yuri's Revenge, realized I had to do some more patching with it so I decided to just play Doom.

Less is more. You need to show self restraint and discipline. I only run a gameplay mod and a monster mod at the very most. If I'm feeling particularly saucy I'll throw in corruption cards, but that's my limit.
Unless I'm playing HD, then I add some extra shit on top of that, though that's because a lot of the fun stuff I want is spread out between a bunch of packs.

I never considered Doom 2 bad. I actually think Sandy was being more creative and unique with his Doom 2 maps, compared to his Doom 1 maps, which often were generic maze layouts, usually based on something Tom Hall left behind. The main issue with Doom 2 is that a lot of the maps feel rushed or unfinished, alongside the map order lacking in thematic consistency.

I also disagree that most of the maps are longer than average. Only like 5-6 maps take much longer than 5-10 minutes to complete, and only two of them take upwards of an hour (one of which being a secret map).
