How do I say no to stuff like a Game Gear I know I’ll probably never play more than a handful of times? I’d get an Everdrive for it of course, but buying consoles is getting out of hand.

Just download mednafen and giant rompacks for every console and then never play any of them like I do

Knowing that you might have to refurb the thing for the caps or even the screen. If you really want one for playing a flashcart on though, and if you think that you can afford it without a problem, I don't see the issue.

Honestly I think I’ll probably have more fun with the repair than the games. Besides the Sonic games which mostly play better on SMS, are there any real exclusives worthwhile?

Coca Cola Kid
My local game store has a Game Gear listed for like $175, I always thought they were neat but can't imagine paying collector prices for a handheld with such a small library

I think maybe there was a Game Gear exclusive Megaman game or two? I may be wrong though, I don't have a lot of familiarity with Sega games.

If you'd enjoy refurbishing a Game Gear in a sorry state though, that'd be a good enough reason, if anything you could sell it on and make a small profit on it, or maybe give it as a gift to a good friend.

They’re not great for use, I have one from when I was a kid

Can you guys imagine if we ever got a Game Gear Advanced equivalent? You guys think Sega would have eventually got it right if they continued making handhelds?

I know Sega would have fucked it all up. I think we all know that.

We did, it was the Nomad. Only thing is for this one they didn't bother making small cartridges.

>making small cartridges
The point with the Nomad was to play the Genesis cartridges you already had, making it use special cartridges would defeat the idea.

It does make me wonder if Sega could compete with the GBA somehow? Like the Nomad comes out later and is a 32-bit machine, which can play Genesis games on the go, but which they'll continue publishing 32-bit games on (which are shorter in height so they don't protrude), which will run on the Nomad
It would have to wait until the 2000s though, and the 32X wouldn't be allowed to exist first.

Game gear did the same with the Master Converter and Master system games were pretty much the same as the gg ones.
The issue was the batteries so, yeah, had it come out later it might have been better and would have had a chance against the gba.
