why are N64 rom hacks so based?
Goldfinger 64, Star Fox Survival, Goldeneye X, Super Kek 64, Smash Remix, Super Mario Bros. 64, etc. etc.
Honestly if you don't have an N64 with a flash cart or if you're not emulating these at the very least you're missing out big time

>> No.7935064

I've been wondering this, too. The two big things I know for its equivalent consoles are Nude Raider, Sonic X-treme restoration, and loads of fan translations; but seems like there are some I'm missing.

I like goldfinger, but there's a glitch that keeps me from finishing the second level.

We need more hacks. If I knew how to contribute I would

If I knew how to mod, I would start work on The Living Daylights 64. But, I guess there has to be an Octopussy 64 between it. Goldfinger looks cool though. I still think the single player campaign in Golden Eye is one of my favorites in an FPS. Most of my favorite FPS games have antiquated gameplay styles anyway. As much as I loved Perfect Darks multiplayer. I felt the single player dragged on for a bit longer. I would get a little disinterred in completing the final stages. The game still has a lot in Perfect Dark. Bond had a perfect selection of levels with multiple challenge levels.

Is there even a level editor for Goldeneye?

If there were more public tools available for N64 games I imagine maybe there could be a larger community. This is why decompiling projects are great cus they might be able to make level editors and modding easy as fuck.

I saw a .webm of Goldfinger 64 and it was just a guy going into a bunch of small rooms in a long hallway, where there'd be two guards in each room and you'd shoot them, and they didn't hear as you did this, so it's just a bunch of worthless padding.

Is there more to Goldfinger 64, or is it full of shit like this?

Short answer is that N64 is the newest generation for which the Assembly opcodes can actually be read through and understood. This makes modding more approachable than newer consoles.
Add to that the lack of a BIOS, and you can screw directly with the hardware with relative ease.

N64 hacks are overrated and the vast majority are missing a lot of polish compared to hacks/translations on other consoles. I've had more fun playing prototypes or the 64DD games than any ROM hacks I've tried. If there's decent ones out there, post them.

It's sourced from the License to Kill movie poster. I have a feeling that the original was Dalton's head pasted on somebody else body. It's a weird edit. The Duel is kind of interesting in that it is an original James Bond game based on the Dalton Bond. But Timothy Dalton was only Bond for two movies before being replaced by Pierce Brosman. The Duel came out in 1993, four years after Dalton's last Bond movie.

Nah the patch is fine, you have to switch the saving method on the OS screen to force EEP16k, then the game will start up with sound and you'll be able to save. The first level is very dark though.

Likes others have said, here's the biggest problem with Goldfinger 64 THE LEVELS ARE TOO FUCKING BIG
it can take you 3 minutes to walk across the pool at the hotel, all while the distance fog clips your view 10 feet ahead of you. On levels like where you have to get to fort knox you're walking around for 10 minutes in a fuck-huge outdoor area with zero direction on where to go
scale down the levels by 50% and it would be much better

on the positive side theres a lot of new guns, new enemies and music i guess

The Living Daylights was actually pretty decent on the c64.
I think it was Domark who had the rights for 007 and pumped out a lot of shit games based on both Moore's and Dalton's James Bond movies in the 1980s for home PCs and Micros until they just made one up in The Duel for Sega consoles, their last and best Bond game.

One of my favorite 80's Bond movies is Never say Never Again. It was an off brand Bond movie with Sean Connery in the 1980's, while Roger Moore was the official Bond. I love it because it is a weird "what if".

I watched a playthrough of this a few years back. Seemed unnecessarily bloated. The developer put together a lot of very large rooms, either for abstract fidelity to the movie or in order to show off, and it didn't look fun for gameplay.
