Beginners mode: Prequels/Sequels/Ports/Spin-offs
Easy Mode: games from separate IPs
Medium Mode: games from separate IPs on different console
Hard Mode: Different Genre, Older Generation, or a worse game that has a similar flavour

Hard to find anything to recomend except Super Ghosts'n Ghouls. Maybe the NES megaman games, but those are pretty different.

Aladdin on the Super Nintendo, also produced by Capcom, has a very similar play style to Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts. It's sorta like G'nG Easy Mode.

Thanks for the recommendations, I am going to check out SNES Aladdin.
I have heard it is pretty challenging for a decently playable licensed game.
Although, I have heard that SNES Lion King is far harder.
