Reposting what we can expect to see, judging from the footage in the initial trailer...
>Upscaled Origins-esque visual style in general, with character and monster designs looking like more direct renditions of classic sprites (classes are obvious examples but look closely at Garland and Adamantoise).
>Recent logos for I-III, original logos for IV-VI.
>FF (Fast-Forward) button spotted several times, making grinding less tedious.
>Final Fantasy battles lack MP and instead show your turn's action, suggesting the MP system from DoS-onward has been reverted to the original spell charge system as intended. [Confirmed in subsequent footage.]
>Cecil is shown to move diagonally at a point or two in FFIV's overworld, so 8-directional movement looks to be carried over. [Confirmed in subsequent footage.]
>Minimaps are available like later games in the series.
>UI seems to be classic and not mobile.
>Opens with OG music and graphics, which MIGHT imply a music/graphics toggle (not 100% for sure).
>Weirdly enough, Rydia appears as a child in FFIV footage, but this may be a placeholder.
>Mobile and Steam only..for now.
More recent footage also shows that the Soul of Chaos appears to be gone, though rumors persist that the extra content will be DLC.

The problem is that you guys don't have the same definition of "understanding the language".
You can probably understand a video game designed for children within 5 months, but being fluent, though it doesn't mean talking like you were born in the other country, means being able to go in the streets and talk to people (even with a shit accent).

Reading a video game and talking with people are completely different things. I can tell you that there are tons of people who post and read on 4chan but who are not "fluent" in English.
I used to think I was good in English because games/internet as a teen but it wasn't until I studied it at the university and talked with a lot of british people for a great length of time that I was fluent, and even these days you'd put me in the middle of Scots and I'd be struggling.

In short you're probably both rights. Yes you can probably understand a video game within 5 months, no it doesn't mean you're fluent.

This is a reasonable take, I just push back against the "just learn Japanese bro" crowd because it's such an unreasonable expectation in a very short period of time. Even if one thinks the goal of just having basic reading comprehension is doable enough, it's a gigantic commitment that the average person here can't do, and I question how good their comprehension is after 5 months. I know a few non Latin scripts like Devanagari, I know how long it took to get to the stage of just reading at a toddler level, I know these people are bluffing about how long it took them in a language 5x more difficult. I will call it out as bad advice whenever I see it. I've even seen threads where other people learning Japanese have called it out as ridiculous, saying it took them at least a year to get to video games.
