Have you ever beaten it? Without save states of course.

Yeah? It's a pretty simple game, even without warp zones.

I beat it and the second quest on original hardware. Damn kids, get off my lawn.

Yes, It's called muscle memory.
Don't need to think or worry, just run and jump from beginning to end.

Yes. It's not that hard. Most of those old games are more practice than difficult.

if anyone has never completed this game before then they need to consider suicide, because the game is literally built for children. everyone that isn't fucking retarded has completed it at some point.

You haven't beaten it if you haven't played the faster PAL version

>> No.7896967

Of course, I've beaten it several times on a real NES so no save states or other cheatery.

>> No.7896991

>>7895279
Yes. I did it when I was a child using optimal warp zones though I had a difficult time. I also have done it multiple times as an adult. If you know that you can continue after a Game Over by holding A when you hit Start, it's not a terribly difficult game to beat.

>> No.7897019

Yes, but i've never had the patience to do the 2nd loop. The only game that has a harder 2nd loop that I actually played through was Super Castlevania IV.

Trying to beat it without level skips on my Game&Watch anniversary edition. This games pretty hard if you don't go for 1ups.

>> No.7897298

Yes. Besides world 8 there isn’t much challenge.

Now jpn Super Mario Bros 2 on the other hand is much much more challenging. I haven’t committed to beating it since I was like 12, I’m afraid it’ll be tougher than I remember.

I beat this shit when i was 4 or 5. And we didn't know about warp zones back then. Why do zoomers pretend mario 1 is hard?

>> No.7897910

>>7895279
Yes. But I don't feel like I got past the 8th bowser in an honest way, I just knew I'd already won because I got there in big form and ran directly through him, knowing there was nothing he could do about it and that there were no further levels. Consequently I never felt like I outplayed the final challenge except by playing decently to get there like that.

>> No.7897920

I've beaten Super Mario Bros Crossover while playing as Mario. I think that counts since it's just the same game at that point, the differences were just being able to select characters that could steamroll the game like Contra Guy, Mega Man or Samus.

>> No.7897927

>>7895279

Yes. A long time ago though. 25+ years ago. I got pretty good at it, but it takes time to get used to the controls and memorize the levels. I even beat the + levels where the goombas all change into the beetles.

Beat 8-4 as small Mario, it's the hardest part of the game and you're forced to do it if you fuck up. The other world 8 levels have ways to get past them.
8-2 has a respawning 1-up so you get unlimited tries at that jump.
8-3 has 2 hidden powerups, giving you a fire Mario to take out the hammer bros at the end of the level.

This, so much fucking this. Even though I beat all Mario games and Ninja Gaidens, SMB is still harder for me. Mainly because of limited continutes. I mean in SMB3 it's a bit easier since you don't start from the very beginning but good fucking luck getting through some of the worlds with only 3 lives or how many do they give you, don't remember.
I'm pretty happy that someone finally agrees that NES SMB games are secretly harder than stuff like Castlevania
