>What is MiSTer?

MiSTer is an open project that aims to recreate various classic computers, game consoles and arcade machines, using modern hardware. It allows software and game images to run as they would on original hardware, using peripherals such as mice, keyboards, joysticks and other game controllers.

I'm working on building an enclosure for the MiSTer and it's not going to be some 3D printed abomination or a couple of acrylic plates. Gonna be a legit enclosure that's going to look nice and actually fit in among other consoles.

Anyways, what are some important features that should go into the enclosure? It's going to have power and a function button as well as 2 USB ports on the front, a mounting point for the fan on the back inside, HDMI, VGA, and ethernet on the back as well. Does this seem pretty reasonably full featured?

Cores are updated every single day, there is plenty to talk about. There will be a new MG hitting the bump limit every day when the PS & Saturn cores drop.

It's a good start. I'd really like to build an enclosure that includes a keyboard, external SD/microSD/tape input/hard drive bay/etc, custom SNAC connector (so you don't jam a USB plug into it by accident), as well as things I'm forgetting, but boy that sure is a lot to cover.
Something like this is a good start: https://buildingtents.com/2021/02/22/mister-project-keyboard-case/

No it's not. Even on misteraddons, the bundle that actually has a case is $450, and it's always sold out.
How do you guys justify spending over $500 to emulate SNES games?

Yeah, there really are so many different options to consider with what can be added to the IO. The SNAC connector is probably worth a look to see what could be done with that. And an external USB or two on the back would be good for external drives and something like a wifi or wireless keyboard dongle.

That keyboard case is pretty cool. Shame it's 3D printed, though.

Actually have there been any significant updates for cores since December. It's so hard to find news about MiSTer. All these threads get infested with designated pajeet trolls.

Who the hell has both a MiSTer and a 3D TV that are using these cores? It's cool that it works but I gotta imagine like 2 people actually messed with this.

If Analogue products are a scalpel, MiSTer is a Swiss Army Knife.
The whole point of the MiSTer project is to do everything possible with the FPGA- even if some of those things are entirely pointless.

FPGAzumSpass said that if he were to do a VB core he was going to leave it 2D only. Then again some other guy could add it in, hell Grabulosaure might do it.
Personally in terms of unconventional additions I wish FPGAzumSpass added GBA Link Cable support through the User Port to his GBA cores but he already said no to it.

>> No.7895362

I'm glad because this feels like another avenue to see creative methods of playing old shit. That GBA splitscreen core looks cool for example, you could technically do it on PC with mGBA and multiple windows but this just boots and works. PC still has it beat with 4 players though, since the DE10 definitely can't do more than 2 at a time

>> No.7895379

There was also an interim period where monitors just had 3d because it was easy to do at the point that it was fading away. Hell, I think my current monitor may be able to do it. I've never used it, but it does have a little sticker mentioning 3D.

>> No.7895635

That's why the core needs to implement the link cable via SNAC and enable linking to another dual-GBA core.

>> No.7895684

>>7895635
If we got that that'd be great, I'd also like a connection to two Gamecube controller cables to have two GBAs to use in Four Swords Adventures or Crystal Chronicles.
I would actually use this, I'm missing two GBAs to do a full four player setup in FSA but GBAs cost way too much right now

If possible a power slider like the SNES would be the best.
