I heard this got a complete translation recently, but when I tried to look there doesn't seem to be anything. Did this board lie to me?

>> No.7888126

>>7888085
It's a Switch exclusive. Think the fan translation was canceled due to the switch port coming out.

>> No.7888151

>>7888126
It got leaked on mega. I'm sure if you search the archives here on /vr/, you'll find it.

This game isn't actually good btw

>> No.7888216

It's alright. The soundtrack is nice, the graphics are neat. The fetch quest gameplay kinda blows unless you're really into that kind of thing.

Worst part is the story loses a lot of context thanks to cut content relating to the ending.

Something doesn't add up.
It says
>Version: Beta ~2019
on the english psx version, which should be the incomplete translation. You can't see full descriptions on the monsters you're trying to save.

>> No.7889775

>>7888331
the translation is permanently incomplete as the translation project was cancelled as soon as the switch version was announced. that's the best you're getting without buying a switch.

>> No.7890758

>>7889775
Fair enough. I can always just fill the gaps by watching the switch walkthrough. I just don't get why the monster descriptions are cut in half and there's no way to access the rest of the text. It seems like they translated the early one wholly, I just don't to view them because it's buggy. I also managed to soft lock the game by just viewing the secret notes in Stein's laboratory, pressing none of the buttons did anything and I was stuck (PSX version)

>> No.7890764

Yeah, it's okay though I think artistically it is worth playing it for. Just note that even though RPG is in the title is very much an Adventure game.

>> No.7890785

>>7890764
I think it's really only worth playing if you're an Undertale diehard and want to see one of its inspirations. You need to have rock bottom expectations though, since Undertale is actually good.

>> No.7890831 [DELETED]

>>7890785
>Undertale is actually good
It's ridden with zoomer humor. There's a difference when some jap devs do clumsy attempts at humor like in Earthbound. It comes off charming. But when a literal retard the likes of Toby Fox attempts mimicry, the end product becomes cringey at best.
It has good music, the characters are pansexual genderfluid whatever the fuck retarded pandering, and the plot takes a huge nosedive.

Grow up

>> No.7890908

>>7890785
I think the Undertale inspiration is less direct than many people imply. It seems Toby never even played the game himself. Instead it's more a spiritual predecessor that shares certain themes.
The game itself is interesting artistically though. It's clearly made by artists with the design and presentation trumping the gameplay itself. Some parts of it are pretty delightful, and some of it is a slog.

>> No.7891619

>>7890908
>and some of it is a slog.
There's merit in designing a game that's meant to be a slower burn, though. It grows on you. That's why they added music to listen to and an inventory to manage. The only problem is there isn't much detail to appreciate in locations you've already been to, but you could pin that under technology limitations of the time. A lot of the Sierra adventure games are fun to play because a ton of the background detail has added commentary and choices lead to different outcomes like dying in multiple ways. That's what makes an adventure game interesting in my opinion.

Toby literally convinced the guy to put it on Switch.

It's pretty cool minus the fishing being a required component to finish the game. The lack of a "real" ending is s big lame, but the game oozes soul.

>the fishing being a required component to finish the game
While this is true, the fish on the desert go for 300-600 yenom each while bait is only 10 yenom and you can stash as many as you want. Takes only like 10 minutes to grind a 10k worth of them.

Is the PS1 translation fine and completable? I'd rather run that one so I can fast forward and shade/scale it so it doesn't look like whatever dogshit bilinear/jaggy shit they probably use on Switch, or use real hardware if I want.

>> No.7892180

>>7890859
Literally what was wrong with his grievances? I liked Undertale but he isn't wrong.

>> No.7892183

>>7892174
I'm assuming it's completable, but it's significantly flawed: the monster text boxes are cut, so vital information on how to catch them is sometimes not communicated to you. I haven't finished the game yet so that's all I know.

>> No.7892236

>>7892174
I was a tester for the fan patch and I can't say that I recommend it over the professional translation. It was in a promising place but the script needed additional editing passes. In its current form it's rife with typos, formatting issues, nonexistent idioms and it doesn't work on real hardware. Playing it with on PSP also has game breaking bugs.

Even if it's not the most accurate experience in a technical sense, I can't recommend the Switch version enough. If you downsample the game through Ryujinx, it looks very crisp and it's not very demanding at all.

Most of that I'm fine with. I agree that the inventory is limited, but dealing with the interface wasn't my issue either. The pacing when it was intended didn't bother me, the bird flight to the island being a good example of a purposefully slow paced moment I enjoyed.

Rather, this is a puzzle game at heart. Some of the puzzles I knew the answers to and simply messed up the input. Even that's fine, but there's a balancing act between that and how long it takes for the chance to try again to come around. As you near the end and are doing the clean-up there's large chunks of doing nothing but waiting for a full day to roll around to talk with and investigate further. That tended to get boring to me. I wish there was a better way to speed up time at certain points. It wasn't huge but I became very aware of that in the late game when more stuff is time gated.

I'm aware he helped encourage the game, but I thought he hadn't played it before. I based that understanding off of this tweet from him:

He used Kotaku as a personal blog and wrote the cringiest, incelist, pretentious bullshit ever. The only reason you don't see it is because you're probably too young to remember him when he was peak insufferable and acted like he was God's gift to gaming journalism. Every negative stereotype about Kotaku and gaming journalism stems from him.

>>7899790
No I just never saw any reasons to read kotaku beyond the superficial clickbait article.
I can kind of see your point though, cause I was watching a video of bennett foddy playing battletoads just now, and the guy is playing like he's never held a video game controller in his life and Rogers started saying games should be beatable without memorization. So, I can imagine how he could come off obnoxious, talks a lot and pointlessly and has controversial opinions. Still far from the universally hated SJW villain he's painted as though.
