This game would have probably been a classic if they brought it over. I will never understand what went on in Square's head.

Oh, I have a good one.

>Burning Heroes (SNES)

Several scenarios, recurring characters keeping their stats and equipment between them, a final chapter where every hero joins together to defeat a greater evil, interesting story and characters and good character development (Naga is a good example).

Well, I just beat Adventures of Hourai High School and I'd recommend it.

It's a first person JRPG and has a job system that involves joining clubs, rising through the ranks, and mastering skills specific to that club. There's a ton of recruitable members and you can have a total of eight party members at any time, being able to switch your main four with members of your reserve ranks seamlessly.

There's also an emphasis put on the friendship you have with your party members. Spending FP on them deepens your friendship, gives you access to their friend-only ability, and increase how many times you can use that ability.

The story's really whacky. You're a transfer student at a gigantic high school that takes up an entire island filled with monsters. You're basically drafted into working for the school's underground gossip newspaper and you uncover all sorts of weird shit going on throughout the school. There's also slight differences depending on your gender.

Finally, there's a ton of sidequests, hidden quests, hidden items, hidden characters, and goodies to find throughout the game.

I made a thread about this a week ago (after the first OP pissy and deleted the original because people told him not to call it EarthBound-like), but Marvelous - Another Treasure Island is a pretty good game. It has a mostly finished translation patch (all relevant in-game dialogue is translated; only the intro and a few menu entries are still in Japanese). It was stoppled before VWF could be implemented, so the text l o o k s l i k e t h i s, but it's full and competent. Great game, too. You can get his last patch here: http://www.romhacking.net/forum/index.php?topic=14179.0

I keep trying to start this one, but I get bored early on like I do with most turn-bases JRPGs. I think I just don't have the patience anymore to actually play them. I want the story, but the gameplay usually is such a chore. Shame, too, because I remember when some project for this started in 2001 or so when I was in high school and being really excited for it then.

I auto-battled through most of the game. Only really took my time on bosses.

I downloaded Famicom Detective Club 2 a couple days ago, I haven't had a chance to play it yet anyone know if it's good?

If you like Japanese adventure games (Snatcher), you'll probably like it. Tone-wise, it's a pretty good detective story. Gameplay-wise, well...

I'm also kind of surprised this is a first-party Nintendo game given you can feel up dead girls, police officers, and 12 year olds. Fuck, Nintendo, what are you doing?

is there a translation patch of the refined version?

>> No.788976

Yes, it's rather good.

My choice for obscure translations would be Eternal Filena. The SNES JRPG with somewhat thick yuri overtones.

I never even heard of this one but it looks neat. Thanks for the heads up.

>Burning Heroes (SNES)

It was released in Europe.

Every source I can find online says otherwise. Are you thinking of a different game called Burning Heroes?

>> No.790402

>>788498
Oh, emuparadise doesn't have a translated ROM. Time to break out the ISP patcher.

>> No.790403

>>790379
Actually I'm wrong. The game I was thinking of was called The Firemen and for some reason I always thought that was the English release of Burning Heroes.

Carry on.

Sounds kinda like Live-A-Live. Is it?
