help me understand this game. I love the graphics, the music is great, the plot is dumb as hell, and drawing is..kinda fun but

You need to draw ??? on every boss, and check every part of every boss (multi form bosses etc)

You should have gotten an item at this point though that you can use which triggers in a fight, which in turns grants you a GF if you win. Check your inventory.

just do it when you see new magics, don't go full autistic about drawing 100 of every magic. GFs should provide refining abilities that provide a more effective way of getting magic.

because well junctioned melee is easily more powerful than magic, specially at higher levels, and drawcasting magic is random as far as magic power goes.

You missed a few. Most are optional in one sense. For starters, and save your game first, check if you have the magic lamp in your item inventory, then use it. You have Brothers, right? (finishing the dungeon where you get the ID number to get to Deling's mansion). Many GFs can only be gotten by drawing from a boss; so far, you should've gotten Siren (drawn from Elvoret). If you're about to attempt the assassination, when you fight the two gargoyles, draw the carbuncle GF from them.

Just keep playing. The plot will get worse. Just enjoy the comfy scenery and the music.

Leveling up being bad is a meme by players who can't into the game. There are plenty of advantages to lvling up, but you need to use them all. For instance you get better item drops so like I said you need to teach the GF the ability to turn items into magic to make use of that.

get diablos (the lamp Cid gives you before your first mission) asap. Get enough AP to get enc-half and enc-none. When you get the airship on disc 3, go to the islands closest to heaven and hell and run along the perimeters hitting draw. You'll get holy, full-life, triple, Ultima, flare, and other goodies. Those are the best stat junctions

when you get Aura, casting it on squall and doing his limit break over and over (especially after you get the lionheart) is your primary method of attack

There's a junction switch function. Just remember to swap your main party with your alternates. The only real confusion comes in trips to the past, where you're never sure who will be associated with Laguna and friends

GFs have to learn stat junction abilities (make sure you get spd-j, hp-j and str-j on everyone, and hit-j on whoever isn't squall. He hits at 255% always (which means even when blind)

You missed 2 GFs before the iguana things. Diablos is in a lamp Cid gives you, and siren was drawn from the boss in the seed exam. The iguana things have carbuncle, which makes the fight against edea super easy. It casts reflect on the whole party, and she just spends her turns casting dispel

They know seifer is with edea. His execution would be for attacking the galbadian president


The story is actually awesome, but you haven't really cracked the surface. My biggest complaint is how easy it is to min/max

it's pretty easy to understand mate, when you summon a GF, they'll take some time to appear, but they can take damage for your characters. It's a legit strategy to tank some telegraphied attacks from enemies. Also the most you cast them with an specific character, the more affinity they'll build (meaning faster casting)

It's about optimization, brainlet. There's a reason not to level up until later in the game. But as a FFVIII fag I would never recommend that someone playing for the first time does NOT level up because that takes away the knowledge and experience they gain from understand how the game mechanically works and how it was designed to punish players who grind leveling up only.

You can do 9999 damage with Squall in like the first few hours of the game.

You junctioning 100 tier 1 (fire, thunder) or tier 2 (fira, thundara) spells to his attack stat, junction Diablos to him and learning Darkside, and use Darkside and at the same time his sword makes contact with the enemy press R to activate the trigger of the gunblade. His high attack stat, the attack boost from Darkside and the trigger of the gunblade all stack and multiply to easily deal over 3,000 damage as soon as you get Darkside, and within hours you can get 9,999 damage.
