why is he in the water temple and not shadow? dark link -> shadow link

It's pretty good. It has that Nintendo polish, though it has the associated Nintendo blandness I feel about most of their major games. Mario has this the most, but Zelda tends to leave me a bit cold as well. Like, it's easy to play but after I'm done with it I don't have much takeaway.
That being said, basically everyone disagrees with me and I'm in some sliver of a minority. So, might as well try it and see.

The cool thing about Dark Link is that he has a bizarrely advanced AI for being a miniboss that appears once in a featureless square room. If you use hacks to spawn him in other places in the game he'll fight enemies and chase you with surprisingly good pathfinding, he can also mess up certain scripted events because he's coded like the player.

Its the only time Zelda got everything right, IE a good story, good gameplay, good music, interesting world, good characters, good controls.
I like the ideas that Zelda games present, just wish all of it had more depth thus I always end up disappointed, OoT is the only game in the series that doesnt.

If youre playing the game make sure to just try and not think about the fact that youre playing a game considered by many to be the best game ever made, it ruins a lot about the game because you'll sit there with a very negative mindset playing a game meant to bedazzle people in the 90s, doesnt connect well.

There is a decompilation project for a native PC port but it's not over. You can see the progress at https://zelda64.dev/progress.html

Bear in mind, I have nostalgia for it, I got a green N64 with DK64 and OoT in christmas '99, and OoT was the game that absorbed me despite coming off the DKC trilogy hype/obsession I had as a toddler, yet I'm really saddened by the drone people putting people off from trying the game.

It is dated in many instances, especially since many things it did, it was one of the first instances of action adventure in 3D, but I think it's genuinely a fun game with a charming world and character designs - I loved looking at the artwork so much in the manual. I hope if you try the game anon, you find it to be a fun time in spite of the usual Nintendies being obnoxious.

the 3DS remake of OoT is also good, fuck contrarians
