Yeah, sure.

I think Sega understood VR more than Nintendo did

>> No.7831383

lol, I love that reason.

>We nearly did not release the Virtual Boy because we were afraid that people would run into the stores by the thousands for it and trample each other to death. And that we could not live with being responsible for.

>> No.7831394

That's why they released the activator instead, because it's a piece of shit.

I agree. However, I suppose that in 1993 that VR would be more impressive but it has aged poorly.

Virtual Reality was a hot topic in the 90's.
How come it took 20 years for it to become relevant again?

It got a bad reputation as being crap compared to the science fiction imagined idea (e.g. Virtual Boy) and took a long time before people were willing to give it a chance again with much better technology.

There were VR software that could make 3D graphics back then.

the tech in the 90s fucking sucked, so it left a bad taste in people's mouths and they didn't want to bother with it until new tech came along.

Everyone was thinking about the possibility WAY too far before it could become reality. If you look at shovelware 4th gen games trying to justify why their levels are all completely different places or why there are cool 90s kids in some history zone, half those game were one virtual reality plotline or another.

Battletoads in Battlemaniacs even tried to retcon all of the original Battletoads areas it included to take place all inside a virtual reality plotline, weirdly.

Reminder that thanks to Western developers that bothered to back up their source code, now we can emulate Sega VR with a HTC Vive.

Because the visual aspect is just now getting towards where they were thinking about, and are only just starting to realize that other senses are just as important to the immersion they're looking for. Haptic shit has leaps and bounds to make.
