I've been playing a bunch of arcade games with https://www.retrogames.cc/ recently and I noticed some of them have a difficulty option. I had never known arcade games had difficulty options, but there seems to be no pattern to which have them.

For example, TMNT has a difficulty option but Turtles in Time does not despite coming out 2 years later. Why is that? Do most arcade games in fact have difficulty options but perhaps this websites emutlators/roms just sometimes dont support them? Does changing difficulty setting in arcade games change much, or perhaps is it mostly just a generic higher damage taken/less damage output thing?

Those were something arcade operators had access to. Either dip switches or in a special menu.

>Why is that?
Because you're using shitty zoomer shit. I can't think of any post pong that didn't have some sort of difficulty setting. Even if it was something as simple as how many lives you started with, points for extra lives, etc.

it's so owners could crank up the difficlty via the system menu/dip switches and rinse your wallet, op

Thanks for the site OP, it runs a tad slow but I can finally enjoy those classics from my childhood without fiddling around with bullshit!

Holy zoom

The difficulty settings for this game are in the operator menu. It's common for games made after the 1980s to have these settings in software instead of hardware dip switches.

To get into the options menu you need to put the machine in service mode, sometimes you need to reboot the machine after turning on the service switch. Look I figured it out on your ass-backwards zoomer shit.

OP asked why there were no difficulty options on a game on his zoomer shit and I gave him a 100% factual answer. If this triggers you need to go back.

Actually this is a good thread. Due to op's retardation I found out that Turtles in Time defaults to mono sound.

Isn't it Turtles in Time that also has a feature where if you play long enough without dying the game just kills your ass?

I read there's a hidden timer that kills you if you take longer than 5 minutes to clear a level

I know that in Crazy Taxi, turning up the setting makes significantly more cars appear on the road. There was a huge debate over which difficulty the game "should" be played at, since you can score higher on higher difficulties. In shoot-em-ups, it usually makes your rank (a hidden mechanic where the game starts getting harder the better you do) rise a hell of a lot faster.

So it varies from game to game. Sometimes it's just a number change, while other times it increases the enemy count or makes harder enemies spawn more often.

The game drops a bomb from the sky and it's unavoidable in the futuristic ship level, you CAN however avoid dying using the i-frames from a high kick.

I can't tell if you guys are trolling or simply retarded. Why do you care if someone plays emulated, in a browser, on a basement, or with the actual machine? Oh wait, he doesn't have a crt display, what a retard.
