Looks like the joystick is switchable between 8 way and 4 way gates and that trackball/spinner controller is a must for general emulation use. It's all down to build/ emulation quality now.

I'm sure it's shit but is kind of cute how the screen is easy to rotate like the original. If the "panels" aren't complete garbage I could see this being interesting for casual soibois.

seriously, it seems they want to sell this not as a Taito arcade collection in a fancy shell, but as the ultimate moddable miniarcade, specially with the rotating screen, external sdcard slot and Spinner/Trackball panel.

all that left would be to know what kind of CPU does this have... which we wont know until its released, so there...

yeah that's a nice touch, probably not a bad way to get a cheap trackball/spinner for your PC. I do wonder if there aren't better alternatives than importing an expensive novelty, but I also can't say that I've done a lot of research into the matter. Maybe arcadecontrols.com forums would have more info. That's where I used to read about arcade stuff back when that was my jam.

>> No.7830254

I'm interested in this arcade mini simply because it has an SD Card slot built in to the unit and seeing how hackable it will be. I would love to see if this will play NeoGeo games better than the NeoGeo Mini that came out. If so, then it will be an instant buy, though I hope I would still be able to order one once we see how the homebrew community will use it.

I think people are impressed that it fucking rotates at all considering it's a cheap novelty toy. Many candies have rotating screens, it's not unique to the Egret line or the Egret II specifically. The Egret II does have the best and easiest rotate mechanism though.

desu this one looks like a much higher quality item than the sega unit, which is probably why just the base unit is 1.5 times the price of sega's. It's a neat box, but I dunno if I'd pay 300+ dollars to have it plus the spinner/trackball controller. That full pack being nearly 500 is crazy.

You can tell that the extra money went to something though, with the 4:3 display and rotating setup. I would expect that sega, by comparision, went with the absolute cheapest possible screen for their units, meaning whatever 16:9 was fresh off the press in China.

Given the image shows a "product not finalized" SD card image, I assume that the spinner/trackball games will be kept separate and you'll load them off of SD card, which is provided when you buy that piece. It wouldn't make sense otherwise to put a unit out that had games which the end user couldn't play.

>> No.7832781

>>7831968
That's right, the product page and Amazon listings say the trackball and spinner games come on a separate SD card.
I think it's fair to speculate that the higher cost is due to the screen and the rotation mechanism, as well as price increases due to COVID Related impacts.
