Born 94 here. My dad bought a Genesis mostly to play the first EA PGA Tour Golf game and just got it as a pack-in but ended up liking it too. Apparently when I was like 3 or 4 years old he or my brother would be playing the Genesis and I'd want to give it a try. He liked Super Mario Bros. as well and bought a Game Boy Color to play it, which he later gave to me after I started borrowing it for extended periods of time to play Pokemon on it. That was the first console that was 'mine'. I own the Genesis too now, he later upgraded to Hot Shots Golf on PS2. He had me download SMB to his Wii for him too.

Neat. My father bought a 2600 in 1983 when he was in the military. He had my brother three years later and that was the end of his gaming career. Every system he bought after that was for the kids.
He showed some interest in our racing games (he's a car guy) but he never got into vidya more complicated than Space Invaders.

Early 80s kid, and it wasn't mine. My (much older) sister's boyfriend at the time used to bring over various games as a way of distracting me while... you get the idea. When things got serious he brought out the big guns, a Commodore 64 with pic related.

then i found out that chex quest was actually just doom, so i begged for my own computer and got the shareware version of doom
