I have mostly acknowledged that cool Build engine retro shooters where you're like a HECU marine style soldier or a police officer and blow your way through bad guys don't really exist outside of maybe Ion Fury and maybe some mods I don't know about. But what about in early 3d? Like I know Half Life Opposing Force obv but are there others like Half Life OF, Soldier of Fortune 1 and 2 ?
Doesn't need to be exactly like completely real world military themed but like the overall 'feel' would be awesome if close to Opposing Force / Counter Strike [but single player] / Soldier of Fortune.
Unreal 2 is a bit too ''alien'' for me, played Quake 2 and it wasn't quite what I search for.

BuildGDX comes with an option for colored keys for RR but they still blend in sometimes. Another tip for RR, breakable doors aren't as obvious as Duke. If you're stuck in an area with nowhere to go, the door that kinda looks damaged might be broken with an explosive

Once you get the yellow key, you have to go back to the first hell knight and arch-vile arena. The elevator is the cyberdemon alcove does not lower from its side (and going there would be suicidal anyway), and you do not have the blue key to open the other door yet. I assumed that you were supposed to run through the cyberdemon hallway, but since the button was not pushed, the door is closed.

Oh, I see. You got yourself stuck by going through the secret corridor and elevator into the cyberdemon alcove instead of coming back the intended way. The secret was a late addition, so I guess when I added it, I didn't think people could softlock themselves by going through there. Sorry!
It may seem like you're locked into that first arena initially, but the button on the otherside of the pillars opens BOTH doors in that room, allowing you to come back to the starting spectre hallway.
I hotfixed it by allowing you to enter the secret elevator from the cyberdemon side, which is suicidal but allows a chance to make it back.

I never said they had to be, I'm just disappointed in seeing the same re-re-reused sprites and weapons you see in so many other derivative mods. Usually looking, acting, and sounding the same across each mod. I'm fine with a vanilla style mod, it just bothers me when people use the same goddamn Mike12 assault rifle and a plasma gun that uses Doom 3 sounds.
I'd be totally fine with a vanilla style gameplay mod, but some unique looking sprites and animations would be nice, but that cycles back around to what I said before: They have to rely on pre-existing sprites other people have made because of those goobers aren't artists.

Just dropped a Violent Rumble update. In short:

>added an armor_percent value to monsters that reduces damage
>lava nails fully bypass armor
>nails and plasma partially bypass armor
>made an edgier version of the Rambler on the test map to show it off
>debug mode to show damage numbers (impulse 25)

A month ago there was an anon that worked on menusys reimplementation for Quakespasm and Devil Dagger mod before abandoning it.
I wonder if that anon is still around as I don't think he posted any updates about this menu thing and it would've been nice to know how it went or if he's simply alright. I'm curious, I can't break the KillingTime game, even with some ZDoom-based editing programs, I only see some sprites in false colors that don't correspond to the game's own color palette. I would like to know if there is any possibility to extract all the graphics images and edit the map.

I'd imagine for the former, you'd simply set up a voodoo belt and have each secret linedef open a door before opening a teleport for the item or simply putting the item at the end of the belt to give to the player.
I guess for all monsters, you'd need to have some setup with scripting to where each monster has a separate script that ticks up a shared counter by 1, and when it hits the number of enemies in the map it would spawn the item?

Just remembered there's trippy swastikas in MAP14 and figured we need a cut version of it for whenever this gets submitted to idgames. I replaced the Nazi flags with NMN banners but retained the slime Hitlers in the next room.

You can jiggle the points in the editor and that usually works. When it doesn't, you delete and redraw a few lines in the problem area. The only time neither of those methods worked for me was in Somewhat Possible and I couldn't get the stairs room patterned the way I wanted without creating fractal shards of HOMs in one area.
The only thing I could see actually being offensive is the buttplug in the caco's ass (my favorite detail)

What I know you can do it is exploiting teleport blocking mechanics to have something check if monster is still there.

Can't think of something which is universally hated, except maybe Knee Deep In ZDoom, but I don't like that one either. Previous discussions about the HECU actually made me appreciate the level design more.
One thing that several people don't seem to understand is that the HECU wasn't just good because of their abilities but because the level design was done around the AI.

The Combine is more advanced in terms of scripts but are crippled by the open areas,they're not designed for that.
Also add they have less health and you get an enemy that is missed potential.

Same goes for F.E.A.R 1 vs F.E.A.R 2 AI: the former follows the same path as HL 1,different abilities that match on what the enviroment is built for. Meanwhile you have 2 where it has the same AI but they're braindead and goes for quantity as a challenge.

Worst part is that too many FPS games followed this trend,where the level designer and coder do not communicate,hence the enemies showcase a really small part of what they're capable of.

ok so I managed to streamline Faspons assault rifle and minigun to use the same kind of ammo and have only 2 types of bullet pickups the magazine dropped by zombies and the ammo box that you find around and the minigun dropped by red nigger dudes
I changed the small ammo pickup (clip) to give 10 ammo and the minigun pickup to give 20
but for some reason this only seems to work on clips and miniguns you find spawned by the level
the clip dropped by zombies still gives only 5 rounds and the minigun dropped by niggers only give 10
any idea why this might be happening?

I'm going to play it regardless of what you call it. If you want to keep the title I don't really care either way. If it had a less sketchy looking download link I would have checked it out. My guess is because most people got conditioned by vidya into a color-coded thinking pattern that goes pretty much like this:
-red=health -blue=mana -green=armor -yellow=ammo
This way the pickup itself can be shaped whatever as long as its mostly in bright red color (optionally with a white background) and one could still make the connection that its a healing item subconciously - for some reason changing the colors while keeping the cross shape itself feels harder for some folks to make the same connection as quickly/naturaly as they did before (anyone complaining about the blue star of life being a shitty replacement for red cross icon is an example of this behaviour)

working on the genesis is a lot of fun, probably because it's not quite primitive enough to require assembly everywhere, and I grew up with genesis games so there's quite a bit of nostalgia for me. lack of floating point means you have to emulate decimals with scaled integers, which is quite tricky and easy to get wrong even when you know the rules. the actual development is mostly in C (with some occasional asm for speed), with emulators for testing, which is convenient and pretty similar to developing for modern machines.

it's definitely fun enough to keep me going though, and this is probably the most advanced fps engine on the system which is also pretty nice for motivation.

I think the general inspiration for Half Life as a whole was from The Mist. Some of the earlier ideas they were throwing around certainly seemed like the game would be more exploration oriented and open-ended. UU is one of my favorite rpg games, amazing game and all but it's kinda retarded when someone do resentful comparisons like that with Doom, why?
