Do I need a breeding guide for this or can I beat it with a typical tank/AOE/healer build

>> No.7812067

>>7812053
Yes if you never had sex before.

>> No.7812145

What is most important is that you breed to a) pass on valuable attacks that are unique to certain monsters and b) end up stronger than you were before. If you are stupid you can end up fucking both of those up, so breed wisely. You don't have to get too autistic about breeding formulas but it can be really fun once you go down the route to see how complex it can get, ending with a team of all boss monsters is pretty satisfying, and breeding a lot can help you get closer to the 100 monster gate.

>> No.7812440

You don't need a guide, but you do need to breed and be mindful about making stronger monsters if you want to get far.

Yes you probably should.

I’d say to avoid using a breeding guide until late game. Keep the mystery for a while. However if its your first time its important to know that different monsters have didn’t exp requirements. When you hatch a new egg, look at the amount listed for getting to level 2 because it scales. 2 exp required is a very fast leveler but weak. 10 is normal. 20 is not horrible and expected for most last game monsters. 50 and 100 are not even worth it, and all the boss monsters require it. Just be aware of this because it always hits people late game when they breed their first super awesome monster and suddenly it takes hours of grinding just to fucking level it. If you want something that levels fast and has high attack, get a grizzly. Pheonix and blizzardy are great for leveling healers because they have good INT and low exp required to level. If you breed two monsters of the same family then you will always get the same monster you selected first for breeding. Useful for injecting skills into your primary monsters. Lets say you got pheonix from tiny medals exchange. You want it to have the healing moves from the heal slime you got from the first boss. If you breed them together you will get a different monster (wingslime i think) with shit stats. So what you do first is breed the heal slime with a random bird (bird selected first) to get another bird type. Then you use the egg man to make sure the egg is the opposite gender of your pheonix. Hatch the egg and take the bird with the heal skills to breed with your pheonix. If you select the pheonix first when breeding with the other bird then jt will make a pheonix baby and inherit the heal skills. Sorry to rant but this was a good example on how to transfer needed skills without fucking yourself over by breeding shit monsters. By breeding within the same family you can maintain preferred monsters while getting the plus bonuses that give huge base stat bonuses. Battle rex and grizzly are high attk.

Okay solid advice, thanks all around. I have a long history with this game and have a visceral urge to beat it after 20 years. Honestly the game has influenced some of my short story writing. Really have a lot of respect for the narratives that pepper the game.

Can I recruit monsters from monster trainers in the field? Ran into a priest in one of the first couple levels and was surprised it scaled so low (phoenix, borgslime, and something else) but thought it’s not a bad idea to try and recruit them early pre-breeding.

The plants level up really quickly and are super strong, get this nigga on your team, I got him by breeding my Anteater with my StubSuck. I ended up just breeding him only with beasts so I could always get a FloraMan but stronger.

oh and yeah you can recruit both from foreign trainers and the tournaments

Yes you can recruit from foreign monster trainers you encounter in the field. Its just unlikely even if you spam sirloins while you pray your mons don’t kill them too quickly. The pro strat is to get the skill ironize, which makes your entire team immune to damage but unable to attack for a few turns, from a whipbird. Use that skill to give you lots of time to spam meats at your enemy. Once you have the ironize skill, you can pretty much get any monster you encounter

As a kid I managed to beat the whole game with Slib, Hale, and whatever the strongest third slime I could find at any given moment was. So it's 100% doable with fucking anything.

Don’t breed too often early game because the pluses are only particularly useful every 10 levels. So if you can’t easily get your base monsters easily levels to 10 or 20 without much grinding, it isn’t all that useful. What IS useful is that the base stats of babies are the parents stats added together and divided by 4. So if you hve two monsters with 100 attack make a baby, it will start with 50 attack at level one. So prioritize fusing strong monsters until mid-game where you can grind pluses easier by fighter stronger enemies to powerlevel you newborns

Literally impossible. The plus system forces you to breed or the max level isn’t 99. The starter slimes probably capped out at level 30. So its not like pokemom where you can beat the entire game with your starter.

The final battle of the game is only against level 37 enemies, so it's not like the level cap is THAT big of an issue for the main story as long as you've got at least one bred monster carrying the team.

Last time I played this game, this was the team I got to the end with. I referenced a breeding guide liberally but didn't make too much of a fuss out of it, I just wanted the Unicorn.

iirc tho, the breeding system is kinda complex, so i guess if you dont want to sit there and trial and error for ages, you might want to look over some of the mechanics

yea i love this game too
i remember begging my mom to get pogaymans and she said she would finally get it for me one day
then we went to the store and it was sold out
guy working there recommended this one
glad he did too, as its really a much better, more challenging game, and indirectly introduced me to DQ

Can you only recruit a monster if there is an opening in your party? (You have 2 monsters only?) I might have been retarded and dumped meat into trying to recruit but they wouldn’t join bc of this

No, you can recruit with a full team, it will give you the option to send either your team member or your new recruit to the farm. This will only be a problem if your farm is full. More likely the monster you wanted had a hard time to get recruited.

By the way, in case you weren't aware, there is a ridiculous penalty in the game where monsters you have recruited from the field will become 4x more difficult to recruit a second time. This was supposedly added so that you wouldn't get a bunch of request messages from the same monster. Monsters obtained through breeding/trading don't have this penalty when encountered by field. Slib however is apparently treated as a recruited monster since slimes are ridiculously hard to recruit.

Oh I learned this the hard way. Ground enough slimes to get a king slime and then enough to get a spot king slime to breed for a gold slime. Proud of my fat gold son though

Nope. As a kid I was completely hellbent on keeping Slib and Hale for some reason. At the end of the game, the third party member was some King Slime variation I bred. Although Slib kept dying in the final dungeon, so halfway through I ended up taking some zombie's offer to join the party in his place. I did use Slib in the final tournament, though.

Last time I played the final round I actually bred my team back to its original lineup for the first round of the tournament, Anteater, Dracky, and Hale each at +10 and higher. It felt good to be reunited with my bros again.

I recommend picking up any of the metal monster gallery figurines if you see them for under $30 online, insanely high quality. I got a liquid metal slime that sits under my monitor
