So what is your favorite retro puzzler?

Mines is definitely the Puyo Pop series (Dr. Robotniks in particular). I can play them for hours and hours..

>> No.780923

Fuckin' love Panel de Pon.
Pokemon Puzzle League was probably my personal favorite.

Super Puzzle Fighter 2. Spent many hours playing this against my buddy across the country via that free online MAME server.

Well, Tetris above all else, but Super Puzzle Fighter 2 in second place, anyway.

Puyo Puyo is still my favorite. I have Kirby's Avalanche and a bunch of japanese exclusives for my SNES.

Super Puyo Puyo 2 Remix is the best.

No Puzzle Bobble/Bust a Move yet? I love it.

It's probably the most copied puzzle game ever after Tetris. Saturn version's great, you can even play as Sonic Blast Man.

I was pissed that the Bust-A-Move included on Taito Legends2 didn't have Bub and Bob. It shouldn't matter since the game is the same but...eh. Wasn't the same

What, why was that? It's not like Taito doesn't own them.

For whatever reason Puzzle Bobble 2 was localized as Bust-A-Move Again and had all the graphics changes to remove Bubble Bobble characters.
It's perplexing.
But get this. The ROM for Puzzle Bobble 2 has all the graphics for Bust-A-Move Again already in it. In the arcade, the games were carts that plugged into a board like a Neo Geo and the region of the board will determine which version gets booted.
The ROM that has been floating around the internet since the dawn of time is Puzzle Bobble 2. No problem right? Bust-A-Move Again graphics are still there depending on the region right? Yes BUT the Puzzle Bobble 2 carts have all the graphics for BaMA, but none of the music!
SO when you run BaMA through MAME with the PB2 ROM, the music is fucked. It skips or just farts out completely

So guess what happens in Taito Legends 2?
Bust-A-Move Again's music is fucked. They cut corners and just have the ROM boot up according to region.
Bub is even shown on the goddamn box art despite BaMA not having Bubble Bobble characters!

My parents got a Saturn for christmas and this game.
I was like :/ at first. I didn't want a damn puzzle game, I wanted something badass like Bug TOO or something.

I played Bust A Move 2 more than I ever would Bug Too!

Ok wait so instead of dumping the rom for both versions, they just dumped the Japanese one? Is the music messing up an emulator problem is does the rom just really not have the music

Forever. and ever.

However, Pokemon Puzzle for n64 is better, just because the comps are more difficult. Didn't care much for the 3D perspective though

Mean Bean Machine, original japanese arcade Puyo Puyo and Kirby's Avalanche were all the same exact game (same opponent AI, patterns and everything) with modified graphics, so you're not missing anything significant if you've played mean bean.

here is an alterative package... at first I thought it was more "normal" but then I was like "wtf are all the male and female symbols doing all over it, what the hell does that have to do with the game?"

I didn't even know there was a GBA port. Cool! I'd mainly want to play this game against other people, though, and I don't think it would be convenient with a GBA (also, my friends get frustrated playing against me because I've had too much practice).

Yes, though Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine and Kirby's Avalanche are both localizations of Puyo Puyo 1, so you don't get any of the balance improvements that came along in Puyo Puyo 2. The most important change in PP2 is the offset rule -- if you have incoming garbage, any chains you break go toward countering those attacks first. PP1 sort of comes down to who can get their chain off first, but PP2's offset rule allows you to defend yourself so matches aren't so ridiculously short.
