I remembered when critics at the time complained that one of the weapons in RoE was a rip-off of the gravity gun from HL2. Always seemed like a stretch to me, even though I could see where they were coming from.

>Although Half-Life 2 and TimeSplitters: Future Perfect were the first games released to feature a gravity gun (the former released on November 16, 2004 and the latter released on March 21, 2005), id Software had previously conceived a similar idea during the development of the earlier title Doom 3. id Software designer Matt Hooper noted that "we actually used it as a tool throughout development where we'd grab physics objects and place them around the world". The tool was used to create "damaged" rooms in Doom 3; instead of constructing a ruined room, the designers would code a pristine room and use the device to "damage" it realistically. Although used to assist the development of Doom 3, the gravity gun was not implemented in the final game. Hooper explained that "we talked about that quite a few times, but we had such a big arsenal of weapons, and so many other cool things going on, that it was just one of those things that never made it in". However, Nerve Software revived the code for the weapon five months after the release of Half-Life 2 in Doom 3's expansion pack, Resurrection of Evil.

Good for them? It was still a complaint critics had at the time, which rarely seems to pop up nowadays.

What do you mean
>Good for them?
?
He answered your suspicion. You were right, it was a stretch, it wasn't a rip off, and who gives a fuck what critics said over 15 years ago?

"Good for them" means "good for them." It's literally one of the most straightforward comments you can make given the context.
>He answered your suspicion.
Where's your proof that there were any suspicions here?
>You were right, it was a stretch, it wasn't a rip off,
That wasn't even a claim anyone made ITT, but a comment about comparing two different pieces of media, and basing criticisms on it, is always a stretchy thing to do.
>and who gives a fuck what critics said over 15 years ago?
Clearly those around at the time.

This is one of those games where people hate it on for it not living up to whatever incredibly specific standards they had for it. It's a perfectly fine FPS campaign.

I love Doom 3 but nah it's not better than Half-Life, still a pretty good game though with a few major and minor flaws.
