Ms. Pac-Man is my all time favorite, but I have a very soft spot for Galaga. If you count 90s as "classic", then Neo Turf Masters is probably my favorite arcade game.

That's not a beat 'em up, that's an action-RPG.

Real beat 'em ups are games like Final Fight, Undercover Cops, and Zero Team 2000.

Never liked it that much. For some reason, it was easier to 1cc the arcade version than the PC-Engine(because of the final boss fight) one.

I'm more familiar with it's predecessor, and personally I'll always like it more just for nostalgia's sake

No, it's a straight beat 'em up, ya git. The D&D stuff is just for flavour, there are no D&D or RPG-like mechanics in the game at all. Experience points are just high score.

i remember the good old times of arcade JRPGs, when you needed good reactions to beat the game. then came all those console SHMUPs that were nothing but cutscenes and gay characters

I see a lot of love for this game, is it mostly nostalgia and the cheesiness? Does the gameplay holdup? I tried it the other day and didn't really get the hype, but I've heard a few people say its one of their favorites.

>you mean items in barrels?
not the same and you know it, d&dcuck. shops let you stock up on too many items and make the player character too powerful.
>also what RPG elements?
you know, level-ups/stats, unlocking new abilities, rpg-style classes, random crits, item rarity, etc. it's all cancer that detracts from any purely skill-based gameplay.

I like most of Williams' games. They look, to me, how arcade games should look. That black background, snappy gameplay, and crazy effects. I always enjoy the spectacle.

I’m glad someone else appreciates the black backgrounds. I like early nes games that do this, and it’s probably a big part of how Metroid gets its atmosphere
