I can't afford it since $300USD is a lot of money. I really want one for PS2, since that Motion Adaptive method looks pretty good. The near instantaneous resolution switching and auto phase detection/profiles sound great and are also features I want. It may take a few months to save up enough to get it. 1. Look into the GBS-C. It's a really cheap DIY solution for scaling, includes Motion Adaptive, fast switching, the works. The minor things it's missing are more than made up in its cost.

2. I don't want to comment on your financial situation, as I'm sure there's lots of details around your health, capability, etc., and I'm sure it's a pain, and the only thing you have in life is collecting and these notes. But if you haven't considered recently your current affairs in terms of work and ambition and what you're capable of, then do. If now's not the time, then fine, but do consider. Lots of ways to make a living these days, and if you have all this capture gear, and all these rare games and consoles, I would imagine there's value in putting that out there somehow.

PS1 and a handful of games on Saturn and N64 are the only really compelling reasons to go with a 5X if you already own a Framemeister. I personally opted for an HDMI mod for PS1 and I don't care about Resident Evil 2 on N64. The Saturn issues aren't widespread enough for me to justify the cost of a 5X.

I honestly don't have an official feature list because the firmware keeps evolving due to constant delays in production. Parts have been extremely hard to come by and we've spent months hunting down pieces to finally get the assembly line going. Got nothing to do but twiddle my thumbs and write firmware. So I guess that's good news in a sense, haha.

At this point, I can confirm a motion adaptive deinterlacer, fully compliant CEA-861 style timings (both 60 Hz buffered or frame locked to the console), no loss on resolution change in buffered mode (and sometimes in frame lock too) and a polyphase scaler that can do sharp, non-integer scaling. 1440p is supported via VESA CVT-rb timings but not all TVs take this. 1440p also requires the system to run at 185 MHz, which is beyond the spec of the HDMI chip, although the Cyclone IV achieves timing closure. Hence, the official moniker '5X' and not '6X', since 1440p is not guaranteed. There's also an experimental downscaler that can produce 240p from 480i, 480p and 720p.

Auto-phase selection is available for SNES/TG16 256, PS1 320, NEOGEO 320, N64 320, Saturn 320, Saturn 352 and PS1 384. All you need to do is select the base mode and the FPGA calculates the optimal phase.

Inputs are SHART RGB, SCART Composite video (Pin 21), YPbPr, S-video and composite. SHART RGB and YPbPr supports 480p. YPbPr also supports 720p and 1080i (although those two modes are limited to 422 subsampling, but this device isn't targeted for those use cases). The SHART port might also support 720p and 1080i, but this has not been tested.

No smoothing filter. I could make excuses on how I hated the effect, but implementing that in a custom FPGA design is beyond me atm.

The deinterlace has plenty of combing artifacts and variable lag, fuck that.
Sure, the framebuffering is nice for shit like fucked up VHS tapes, but literally who gives a fuck.
Until the OSSC pro comes out, the regular OSSC does 480i well with ZERO (0) lag.
all you have do is run it at laced 4x (960p), with allow upsample 2x set to on.
For the "muh flicker" fags, I set alternating scanlines off, at 18% strength and max hybrid strength.
It will create the illusion of a progressive image for your eyes, while also not losing any detail or really looking like you have scanlines enabled at all.
I also set the Pre-ADC gain to 11, because I find the component output on the PS2 and OG xbox to be a little dark on my monitor.
Because I don't use a shitty chink TV, resolution switches is just a slight annoyance. You can also just use a PS3 or emulate the small handful of PS1 games that do this (no one cares about you saturn niggers)
I'm perfectly happy with this, and honestly if the OSSC pro isn't fucking amazing I probably won't even bother.
