Vector graphics were always a novelty more than anything else.

>> No.7791945

it's a really cool looking game if you ask me

Tempest was a fun game, but I don't recall anyone saying wow I have to play this game at home. People were more interested in Pacman.

probably the star wars atari arcade game

Wasn't the test build of this that started the whole Polybius myth?

Color vector graphics are a true spectacle.

Vector games had high resolution when most were limited to less than 320X200.

The beautifully smooth rendering, combined with up to 128 levels of brightness made for an experience which can NEVER be duplicated by raster graphics.

Plus a lot of concepts don't work very well in raster either.

More 80 games that I can just name off the top of my head. Try harder.

>>7791968
Tempest was very popular in its day, and Atari shipped thousands of them brand new.

No, they weren't exactly special even back in the late 60s. That said, the landscape for video games in its entirely was an entirely different beast. Games and the people who played them were a lot more consolidated back then, even shortly after Pongs release.
Vector displays were just uncommon for more civilian or casual uses.

I like the way colored vector graphics look. It is really sharp and bright. Wikipedia says it was released in 1981, so by then I like the look of Galaga, Donkey Kong, and Pac-Man better, but that is rasterized form of graphics different from the vectors made by the beam in Tempest. They all have their own positives and look great to me.

I don't think I ever saw an Atari jag in my country. I didn't even know any other kids who owned a Saturn until me and a mate bought one in 98/99 dirt cheap.

That's just a conspiracy theory. It was actually an early build of Polybius that started the Polybius myth.

No. It was beyond peak. It's hard to describe how intense and clear this looks IRL. And a youtube video doesn't even come close. I really feel sorry for zoomies who will never have a chance to play this or other greats like Star Wars.

There was a grocery store within walking distance of my house as a kid that had stun runner. I wasted so much money on it.

In case you didn't know, the arcade cabinet was actually a bike you sat on. You controlled left/right by leaning the bike and the throttle was built into the handle. As a five year old in 1989 this was fucking mind blowing

I remember one girl having a vector game system (not sure what) but most of everyone else was playing Nintendo or SEGA stuff by then.
