Obviously because they knew Hideous Destructor would exist and that I would find a backpack with over a dozen of them and that I would spend over 10 minutes chugging them in a corner of a room while my Liberator makes ammo for itself in another corner. You're kind of right in that the health and armor bonuses did replace the score items that were present in the press release beta maps. But the potion and helmet weren't used then, they had a whole set of score items completely cut from the final game.

Anyone beat this? I'm sure if you do, you should remember this room. Any hints? I tried every possible strategy and still don't understand how I'm supposed to do this. Powerups suggest I should somehow sneak back in this room after luring mosters out, but I die in 1 nanosecond when I try to get back past them (actually most of the time I can't even do this without running on their heads).

Those are some assumptions. Some people only discover games of 'their time' later because they played a different game or didn't play games at all during that time. I was lucky to play Wolfenstein / DOOM when they were new but that could've easily also not been the case.

Just lure him close to the window, run out blast the imps with super shotty hit the switch and run back, it might take a few tries but once you know how to do it, it's easy. If you're going for 100% kills it'll be hard. Idk if there is enough ammo in the map. It's been awhile since I've played it

This mod is mostly great but it also took some aspects Doom which I personally dislike. One is making Vore's missiles more like Revenant's, yeah. Another is invisibility. I mean come on, nobody likes this powerup in Doom, because it actually makes dodging projectiles harder. Vanilla Quake invis was ok.

In doom 64 they lowers the camera angle into the player sprites chest to give the impression enemies are larger. It gives doom 64 and unique look.

I had movement .pk3s from a previous playthrough of Doom 2. When I tried to play Golden Souls 2, they were overriding the jumping mechanics in that mod, so I couldn't progress through the game. I deleted the lines for autoloading the movement mods in the gzdoom ini and that seemed to fix the problem.

i think that HL2 going for a lighter direction was for the best. you have to think about how many FPS back then had these industrial\gritty artstyles, much less of them took a brighter approach to an artstyle, only ones on top of my head were Serious Sam and Unreal. the HL2 we have now still looks beautiful today, especially with the Update mod's lighting which iirc are the same lightmaps rendered at a higher res and with HDR. that said i really like the early art deco City 17, its very Kingpin.

Plutonia's map01 is harder than your typical map01, especially when talking iwads and 90's megawads. But it's only really a particularly hard map for new-ish players. It's use of high tier monsters mainly serves to teach the player that Plutonia isn't going to waste time with gradual introductions and instead get straight to the point, and are used in relatively safe scenarios compared to what comes later.

I just finished Duke Nukem's ''Life's a Beach'' episode.
It was kind of amusing, I had a chuckle at the reskins of enemies and weapons / items though I think that overall I didn't really like the pistol / shotgun being reskinned that much because it made them sound weak as hell and one thing that was quite fun in Duke was how the guns felt pretty powerful, even the pistol.

Anyway, there were some funny Duke voicelines, the beach / hotel setting was goofy but fun, the amusement park was okay also I remembered that Grezzo 2 had ripped that level off kek. Voodoo caves and that temple level did not please me particularly. The alien ship level was kinda cool for once.

Basically the resort / town levels were funny and had nice detail in them, there were also very hot big titted babes and the girls would shake their tits when you ''interacted'' with them, what a nice detail and the strippers / dancers were hot.

Fuck those sea monster thimgs to hell though. Loathed how the episode puts those assholes constantly behind tight corners so when you round the corner they shoot an explosive coconut to your face or if they miss the splash dama will take like half of your hp. Really cheap design.

Given the way models and brushes in Quake work, its hard to imagine how a swinging rope could be implemented convincingly. You cant arbitrarily deform their (nonexistent) skeleton or vertices or anything like that, only move, rotate, & animate them. Maybe you could have a baked high-framerate animation of the rope swinging and set the angle and frame depending on the physics.

Except pain elementals aren't urgent at all compared to archviles, chaingunners, or revenants, they're just annoying, the only time they're urgent is when they're put into some dumbfuck's idea of an ammo starved map that wants you to run around the semen slurping place for 30 minutes to infight the 500 monsters you were only given two boxes of shells and ten rockets to fight

I completely disagree, a PE is more high-priority than hitscanners or revenants assuming you have cover. Because theyre gonna spit out a bunch of ammo-wasting lost souls, and if they start infighting, theyll do it even when youre out of sight.

I've included a short changelog and my test maps. test maps can generally be run in chapters/quoth/keep/ad to compare behaviors.
one thing I'm yet not satisfied with is Gaunt movement, they're supposed to keep strafing while firing, but when I added sliding movement it was too fast. maybe I'll figure it out later.
