7777650 No.7777650 [Reply] [Original]

MiSTer is an open project that aims to recreate various classic computers, game consoles and arcade machines, using modern hardware. It allows software and game images to run as they would on original hardware, using peripherals such as mice, keyboards, joysticks and other game controllers.

C64:
- Fix IEC signal latch (Turrican III loader).
- VIC: fix xscroll latch time (Memento Mori and Comaland demos).
- CIA: fix SP and CNT signals (RS232 UP9600 mode).
- Add RS232 HW control signals.
- Implement RS232 UP9600 mode with up to 9600 baud rate.
- Parallel disk connection now co-exists with other expansion options.

Speaking of Paul Allen, I'm surprised that there's no separate vanilla IBM PC (5150) core. It would be useful to have a dedicated simple core akin to other microcomputer cores for early 1980s games heavily reliant on 8088 processor functions.

As cool of a platform as MiSTer is, I kinda wish there was some peripheral to run normal cartridges on it. I'm weird as shit and prefer the feeling of putting in a cart in rather than rummaging through some ROMs. I know the Analogue consoles exist, but the MiSTer seems to be a more "all-in-one" solution, and the parts for MiSTer are at least in-stock more often, compared to the people flocking to buy the (overpriced) Analogue shit.

>> No.7779964

>>7779072
This has already been brought up and the MiSTer doesn't have enough IO pins to support cartridge connectors directly. It could possibly be done if it's serialized but it'd require a lot more work and specialized hardware to do the job. Besides, in that instance it'd likely just be dumping the contents of the ROM to a file and no longer accessing the cartridge anyways, so if it makes you feel any better just get dozens of micro SD cards and only put one game a piece on them. It's the same thing.

I'll never understand this viewpoint, because rifling through a stack of carts, finding the one you want, and then having to blow in it a few times because it's dusty was pure cancer. Discs were a little better, but you had to put them back in their cases if you didn't want them to get scratched to shit, and then you'd get lazy and swap them into the wrong cases, it was trash. Not to mention the occasional loading errors.

Flashcarts and ODEs are just better. You can put games in their own folders to find ones you like quickly, the only thing I'd like is either a search option or a "last 5 played games" option for quicker switching.

I bought a MiSTer a few weeks ago, but I've been noticing some disturbing changes in my life. My friend Tyrone has been hanging out with my wife a lot lately. I have no idea what they could be doing at 1am in the morning at Tyrone's house, but I'm starting to get worried. Luckily my MiSTer keeps my mind off the negative shit as I play Yoshi's Island alone in the dark on my MiSTer, waiting for my wife to come home. She didn't come home until 3am and I've noticed she had white gel on her face. She was so embarrassed when I noticed. She said she did a sloppy job of trying to put gel on her hair. So she wiped it off with her fingers and licked it off her fingers. It's gross that she would even lick gel off her fingers. But whatever, I am going back to playing Yoshi's Island on my MiSTer.

Have you checked your cable? Set your ini correctly? Checked the dip switches on the board? Checked the SOG switch?

I don't know what to tell you, I just plugged it all in and it werked. Cable and port is the obvious place to start, check continuity at least.

>> No.7801312 [DELETED]

The reason why it's not working is that you PC Monitor don't support 15khz you need to force the scandoubler on 240p cores so the spit out 31khz over the VGA Port.
There is an option for that in the ini file.

>> No.7801523

>>7801343
It depends on the core, but you just need to remember that if you want to use your PC monitor there is a high chance that your Monitor only allows 31khz signals, so you need the scandoubler. If you want to use a TV then you need to disable the scan doubler because most CRT TV only support 15khz.

SoG -> Sync on Green
I am nearly 99% sure you will never need this and can disable the switch.
Some devices only accept the sync signal on the green channel.

>What do I have to do for it to work on my 240p monitor though?
How are you connecting it? I go VGA to BNC (RGBHV), and the sync signal is combined by the MiSTer itself to give RGBS through either the H or V sync, I can't remember which.

So you've taken a random cable with zero signal processing that's probably made purely for some bizarrely specific device that actually outputs S-video through a D-sub, and you expect this to somehow work on your fucking 1702 monitor that doesn't even have either a composite or an S-video input?

I'm assuming you're at least using an S-video adapter for your 1702, but man. This is one stupid fucking setup.

You're going to want to buy an actual adapter to S-video for your MiSTer. I had a look, but the only one I saw has an issue with the 1702, so you're probably shit out of luck.

>> No.7802093

1702 has two composite inputs and a weird input that'll take converted s-video

If there's no signal processing it should work via composite

>> No.7802103

>>7802093
Whatever dogshit cable you bought is for some specific device that probably uses some of the VGA standard ground pins for shit like luma. The MiSTer puts out RGBHV over the VGA cable, nothing more, nothing less. There's no way for a cable with no signal processing to convert that into a composite signal, I'm sorry you bought junk and don't understand analog video formats.

I don't know man, like I said, the only adapter I saw had an issue with the 1702.

https://www.antoniovillena.es/store/product/vga-composite-s-video-adapter/

Maybe composite would work, but at that point you might as well just find another CRT with S-video to get past the 1702 issue, or something with RGB.

You are right. The challenge would be fitting the 32X inside the Genesis or, dare I say, Sega CD core but if he knows how to fit the whole Saturn than he can do it. Maybe someone picks up the CPU part and creates a CPS-3 core around it.

CPS3 would be weird because Jotego has been the Capcom board guy who doesn't play by the rules of the main MiSTer project while srg320 is glued to it and would have the main component for that core. I really hope CPS3 happens, in fact I'd rather have that than 32X, but I wonder how it would start.

I heard the quality was decent, but also I prefer the option of analogue sticks. Speaking of, I love the way the MiSTer lets you set alternative controls.
I was playing FFVII on my PS3 the other day and it was a constant source of frustration that I couldn't use the analogue stick to navigate the world while also using the D-pad for battle selections- you can only pick one or the other.

Honestly I don't mind the input latency (I'm no speedrunner) I'm primarily concerned with comfort, and for some reason I feel like a DS2 is more robust.
