Any BoF fans? Which is your favorite?
I always loved III, just today started IV.
Very charming so far

4 is objectively better, but 2 for nostalgia.

Played 1-3. Very insipid games. Haven't played 4 or dragon quarter (yet).

Nah man 3 had a much better dragon system.

I really like 2 with the re-translation. Bosch is the king of bros.
Fourth game is fucking gorgeous.

I just started playing the first game on SNES today
>Get to Nanai village
>Find quake device
>Tedious fucking battle with the knight
>I do like 1 dmg and he does 8 in return
>Bruteforce it with the power of autism and herbs anyway
>Pull the key from the device afterwards
>Whole city fucking EXPLODES
>Royal dude walks up to me
>"You gave up Nanai to save us from the quakes"
>"That was a tough choice to make but results show you're a true hero"
>Choice
>CHOICE
>C H O I C E
Nah, I had NO idea what would happen bro. I just casually killed a whole village without realizing...
But it is fun so far, if I end up enjoying this entry the whole way through then I'll play the full series.
And I've never played a RPG that used poison the way this does, made the stakes feel much higher on the first dungeon area. I liked that.

1 and 2 aren't really a good entry to the series honestly, they're both incredibly bare for lack of a better word. I'd recommend starting with IV or III, there's a lot more flavor and heart there.
1 especially just felt dull to me

>> No.7776293

3 > 4 > 2 > 1 for me, and I don't hate 5 or anything but it was so weird compared to the rest it doesn't feel like a BoF to me but it's still good. Only played through it once so I don't remember much.

I came to post this. 4 is the best, 2 is my favorite. I'm usually the lone voice of this opinion. Good on ya, brother

IV is great, very unique setting with some dark twists. I liked the dual protagonist thing it had going, too. Kind of wish the map wasn't just predetermined paths on a map like in FFT and was more traditional open world map where you could explore around.

I don't care for 1 or 2, it's tough to say why but they just feel bland somehow. It really picks up with 3 and then 4 is a crazy treat with a slow build but then some fucked up shit and a great conclusion. 5 is a great game but I wish it wasn't released under the BoF name, all it did was turn off both BpF fans and non-fans. Still, try it if you can you might love it.

Are the stories standalone enough so I wouldn't miss anything by starting with those? That's be my biggest worry

imo the storytelling in 1 and 2 is very very bland, although most RPGs at the time were
late SNES/early ps1 really was the golden age for JRPGs

If these characters are the same across the games, wouldn't it make playing 1 and 2 before3 a necessity to follow their plots? Unless this isn't art from separate games and I'm just misunderstanding

BoF is charming in it's combat blandness, though not in the way DQ is.
It's Capcom trying their hand at making a JRPG series when as a company they never really should've been making JRPGs in the first place, but they did.
Really aside from the generic JRPG combat it's most remembered points were how bad BoF2's translation is, how nice looking BoF4 is and how there was a shit ton of anthro characters.

No, they're pretty casual. Out of the rest, 1's probably the hardest just because it's the most rough around the edges and early SNES.

Easily BoF4. I like pretty much everything about it particularly the setting aesthetics and music.
Never finished 3 because it started boring me around the time you train that nerd npc, also amazed me by being the first JRPG where I got actively annoyed by the world map.
I loved 2 as a kid but haven't touched it since then and I recall not thinking 1 was anything special.

No. There's a couple of bosses in 4 that can be a bitch if you avoid a lot of combat but that's about it.
