Which controller is better ?

which one has the better cord to hang myself with, so i dont have to use these abominations

They both looks like shit, mate.
Then again, the original N64 was also shit, but only n64tards defend it.

it's the most precise stick ever, it just has this tendency to suicide itself

Really wasn't, and most of the world that is not still in a mentally-ill console war still agrees with that. But these third party controllers do look like shit, though the retrobit one could work for most games relatively well, probably, despite that it looks like absolute shit.

>> No.7757479

Never tried the hori but I have two bralwers. They work great for smash and excitebike. Some racing games they let your car steer more than it should which is usually bad. F-zero and goldeneye are awful. Good luck beating the target games in zelda too. Overall when they're good they're great, just comes down to the game

>>7757437
Tribute 64. It's a more sensitive stick with more range than an original controller but the gate and diagonals are a lot more accurate than the brawler. Its stick is very comparable to the Hori. Build and plastic quality are also better than the brawler, and it's cheaper. It's a no brainer. The D-pad is worse but honestly just use an original controller for that.

>> No.7757531

>>7757437
Right doesn't have retarded D-pad placement

>> No.7757576

I own left and I hate it. I would probably be okay with owning right but would only ever give it to a guest. I don't like these controllers, I've found that they're only really good for racing and sports games, they make platformers and FPS games unbelievably assy.

>> No.7757591

>>7757437
why not just use a normal N64 pad?
the stick is adjusted for the correct sensitivity

>> No.7757594

>>7757576
Honestly there aren't any good 3rd party N64 controllers. You're better off maintaining an original N64 controller with a good stick, but eventually it will become loose, fall in on itself, and grind itself into dust no matter how much maintenance you give it or how much lube you slather it in.

Because the OG pads are more than 20 years old and were abused by snotty kids.

I didn't abuse mine on purpose, I just played Mario Party.

This is why I never picked up a Mario Party game. My OG controllers still thank me to this day and I also don't have to buy that utter shit that OP posted.

>> No.7757650

I own a Hori and I think it's shit. Since it's just a regular analog stick complete with a click that's not used it just ends up feeling way too sensitive to be used with N64 games if you want literally any degree of control
Ordered a Retro-Bit earlier this week and hoping it's at least slightly less terrible

>> No.7757653

>>7757650
I don't think you'll be satisfied with it. Its stick really isn't much different to the Hori's and it's definitely a lot more sensitive than an original controller's stick.

>> No.7757659

>>7757653
Any suggestions for a decent alternative?

>> No.7758005

>>7757659
Honestly the only N64 controllers I recommend are the original controller and the Superpad 64 Plus, but those obviously have their drawbacks too. The original was in no way built to last and is bafflingly designed in many ways, and the Superpad 64 Plus has trash ergonomics, but they're the best controllers you can get in terms of their analog sticks being in the range that Nintendo intended.

Stuff like mario party is the main reason to keep these controllers around. I have a couple friends who are way too aggressive on controllers when playing smash too

I have the brawler and enjoy it. A downside for both controllers is that they don't support a transfer pack but I would recommend it. Going to buy the ultra 64 edition tribute soon.

Brawler is servicable for most games, or as a friend's controller. I've been bitten in the ass more often enough by retro-bit to not bother unless I have it in hand to try first.

The retrobit clone is a decent approximation of the hori controller, it's just the L/Z/R buttons that are nowhere near close to what they're supposed to be like which I assume is from the legality-skirting changes to the shape and internals.
The brawler is just bad, and doesn't feel good to use at all.

>> No.7760354

Can't some EE guy just make a way to use a Dual Shock on the N64?
Controllers all use the same faggot power supplies and timing protocols, that why you can use an SNES controller on the Switch and a Genesis controller on a 2600 and a DS2 on the PS1.

Modern Hori pads really aren't anything special, you're not getting anything better than modern OEM controllers and you're more likely to get something that's a little worse. But in this case that 6 button design should be perfectly fine for N64 emulation. That analog gate looks horribly inaccurate to the original N64 controller gate, comparable to the Brawler, but the good thing about PC controllers is that you can configure the analog stick to work pretty much exactly how you want it to. You'd have to put a little work into it but this could be a great N64 emulation controller. You wouldn't want to use this for Gamecube since it only has one stick.
