You know i've never played one in real. Knew someone who had it but never played it with the dude.

What i take from it. IT was extremely cool when it came out during the small period it had

until the Saturn and PS1 came out. Then basically all of its best games got ported to those consoles.

I remember it being overly expensive. But i believe thats cause its manufacturing standards for the console were legit all over the place.

I'm not gonna shit on it or something but all of its best games got ported maybe like 1 or 2 are exclusive but its not enough to justify owning one unless you're a collector or something

The games suck more than the console itself. There's a couple "gems", but you could as easily emulate and hold a 3rd party 3/6 button for the same experience. Could probably get something resembling a homebrew cult if someone could produce anything for the expansion ports. There's no region or copy coding, but the Jap models have extra language text. Probably useless if you're not a weeabo, but I haven't played any of the Japanese games so I dunno.

I traded in all my games for a 3do in 1997 because my snes and N64 got stolen. I got gex, samurai shodown, and a demo disc with it. I wanted SSF2 turbo, but didn't have enough money. I thought the graphics were good, but hated the 3rd party controller that came with it because it didn't have the player 2 port on it, and I ended up with the REAL 3DO so the console didn't have the player 2 port either. After about a month with it, I realized I fucked up and was stuck with it. I ended up trading it after a year. I would say, it was the worst 'failure' console I ever had.

Killing time and Need for speed can kinda pass for definitive versions. Crash'n'burn for somewhat good exclusive.

>> No.7758501

>>7755482
It was expensive because of how it was made. Most console manufacturers take a loss on consoles themselves and make money though games, accessories, and services; it's called the razor and blades model. Trip Hawkins thought he could skip the expensive console manufacturing and go straight to those sweet royalties by farming out console manufacturing to other companies. Because those other companies weren't making a cent from games, they needed a significant profit off each console sold, which made the 3DO more expensive than it could've been.

He lost me a bit when he criticized the 3DO for only having three buttons. It really had 5, and start was assigned to the sixth button. The Interact STD pad only adds an additional start button. He's not wrong about the weird Capcom fighting pad. I remember seeing that pad advertised in a gaming magazine, and I thought it looked strange.

The 3DO has some good DOS/PC and Mac ports of games. Star Control II, Syndicate, Theme Park, Mega Race, Myst, Alone in the Dark 1 and 2, Wolfenstein 3D, Quarantine. Doom was an unfortunate port, nut some of those other above mentioned PC ports were really good with visual and audio enhancements. The 3DO came out at a time when CD-ROM interactive multimedia was a thing on home PC's. It also has some really good laser dis arcade ports.

I was a teenager when the 3DO was released. The only person who I knew that owned one, was a pot dealer who lived up the road from me. My friends and I would buy bags of weed from this guy and he has a 3DO in his living room.

The Sega Genesis has a 3 button gamepad. It was a pain to play SF2 with, as you would have to cycle through the controls with the start button. The 3DO pad does have L and R and an extra select button. The best thing about the 3DO pad was the headphone jack. The daisy chained controllers were a result of the 3DO hardware being licensed hardware to Panasonic, Goldstar (LG) and other companies.

Hideo Kojima was directly involved in the 3DO port of Policenauts. This port was also used as the basis for the Saturn and PS1 ports. Metal Gear Solid was also considered for the 3DO before development of the Playstation version began.

I feel fortunate to have gotten one that can be toggled to 240p for cheap. Friend got it for me just after the start of the pandemic, was afraid it was lost at sea, but grateful to have it now so I can play all those games I found randomly for cheap years prior. While it was not a commercial success, it is still a very interesting system.

From wikipedia:
> JP: 214 games
> NA: 162 games
> PAL: 30 games

Policenauts was the only game Konami made for the system. It was an updated version of the PC98 game with anime cutscenes and other additions. The Saturn and PSx versions are ports of this version. The 3DO apparently had some success in Japan. There are 52 additional games released in Japan only. Kenji Eno's Warp started on the 3DO. People also probably bought it as a karaoke machine,or something. But the Saturn and Playstation killed interest in the 3DO.

At the bottom, nothing. T is for turbo, so when the button is pressed it rapidly activates. At the top position is A for autofire, great for old shooting games which require continunal presses or grinding in JRPGs.

Crystal Dynamics really did get their start on the 3DO. Crash 'n Burn was their first game. They also did Total Eclipse, Off-World Interceptor, Gex, The Horde, Samurai Shodown port and Slam 'N Jam. I think they also did the port to SSF2T as well. There are no credits listed for the 3DO game.

Yes it did suck. The 3DO has a nice port of Namco's StarBlade:
