>NEC were not confident that polygons would be the future of video games, seeing the low polygon counts of 1993 as visually unattractive, instead preferring the idea of streaming 2D content very quickly off a disc, to the point where animations could be displayed without further processing by the CPU
They took this away from us NEC bros.

They were based.

But from a business standpoint, it was retarded

>> No.7754863

In hindsight, they were correct. The first console that truly got 3d right was the Dreamcast. No blurry textures, no jittering/warping.

>Fuck tons of voice acting
>A typical 16bit early cd based console style soundtrack none of that orchestral shit
>Plenty of FMV cutscenes
PC-FX games really do feel like a direct continuation of the 4th gen cd add-on mentality.

PCEngine came out in Japan in 1987, at this time full 3d graphics were things you world only find in some arcades (however rudimentary) or in novelties like the Battletech pods were you could pilot a mech (think really primative Mechwarrkor) for $10 per 15 minutes. Or more. Sprite-based gaming was more practical, economical, and the right choice since sprite-based gaming finally had evolved to include sprite tricks like rotation, scaling, and more, so there was still a lot of innovation going on.

When the Turbo Graphic 16 came out I remember being so jealous because it kicked the snot out of the NES and C64, but that lead quickly evaporated once the Genesis (MegaDrive) came to be.

Ahhh, it was a good time to be a gamer kid in the 80s! So much evolution and innovation witnessed...

as much as i like the pc engine now i probably wouldn't have wanted one back in the day, most of the best games are japan-only and it's extremely light on games that aren't shmups

I had high expectations for this thing at first, thinking it'd be a worthy successor to the PC Engine. But in the end I got a Saturn instead.

No it hasn't. The tastes of this board represent a small fraction of gamers worldwide.
