Hello, i don't normally come here.
What are your thoughts on the 8bitdo series of controllers?
I recently got the 8bitdo2 because i wanted something for my switch, also since i could play emulated games with them as well as on other systems it was a bonus.
Most places online really liked it.
However /v/ seems to hate it.
What are your thoughts on it?
I like it so far, i kinda wish the material was a but stronger and had a better design but it seems alright.
I feel like the hotkeys could be useful for certain games.
Still I do wonder if i made the right choice.
I was a pussy and didn't buy the switch pro controller because i was afraid of drift and was worried it could only be used on the switch that was halfway through it's life.

>> No.7748485

pros:
high compatibility (works on PCs, phones and even modern consoles)
wireless and good battery life
enough buttons for basically every game
haptic feedback
cons:
sticky buttons/d-pad and insensitive analogs
digital triggers

it's a swiss army knife, not the best at any given thing but pretty good at several things.

i love the Pro+ for most things, it's pretty similar to a ds4 but with better buttons and slightly worse ergonomics. a lot of people say that theirs is fucked up in some way (buttons, sticks, etc) but i haven't had issues, ymmv. it's probably poor qc on 8bitdo's part more than them making bad stuff consistently

Here's a little tip.
When you start a thread like this about a general topic(third party controllers) you DO NOT focus on one brand. You need at least three. You should have added Retrobit and Hori to the mix.

As for my own POV, see above. My SN30Pro is great, but I just got it so it hasn't been put to a real test yet. It does have a great SNES feel, and syncs well with both the Switch and my PC.

It's a great controller. I don't know that I'd say it's dramatically better than a Pro Controller or a DS4 or whatever, but I do like it more than either. If you like the overall form of a Dualshock then there's not much to it to dislike. I haven't used an XBONE controller so I don't know how that one compares.

I'd like to get their M30 but I keep hoping that they do something like >>7748584 so it can be somewhat more all-purpose. I mostly play things that don't use analog sticks but they're still nice to have.

It was that or shelling out scalper prices for one of those official SNES controllers that Nintendo released.
My Dualshock 3 works great on my PC, but I wouldn't mind having another option for 2D sidescrollers. It(the SN30) gets the job done, and works great on the Switch too.

Now that I think about it the idea of a Genesis or Saturn Pro controller from 8bitdo is unlikely. The Pro/Pro+ (and I guess Pro 2 presumably will be) is such a success that there's no real incentive to do so. I doubt autists like me constitute much of a market. Almost anybody that wants something a little more old-school but with modern functionality will just get the Pro+/Pro 2 because the SNES/Dualshock model is so much more popular than having six face buttons. Even if it preserved both shoulder buttons and triggers (effectively making the two more face buttons entirely extra) I doubt it would sell much. If Retrobit did cancel theirs it's probably because they came to a similar conclusion. But I like the shape of the Saturn controller so much fucking more, enough so that I'd get Retrobit's even though I have zero experience with them.

I've got the original Sn30Pro+ in black. Been using it for about two years.

Pros:
- Great compatibility
- Controller-based input mode switching, incredibly useful if you use it for more than one console/emulator whatever.
- Gyro
- SNES-style d-pad. There's been a lot of complaints about the 8BitDo d-pads but it seems like they've sorted it out, at least in my experience. Mine feels great and very responsive.
- Decent buttons and sticks
- Very easy to use and highly customizable software.
- Can charge via USB-C to it's rechargeable battery or you can easily pop it out to use AA's.
- Great battery life
- Solid price for what you're getting

Cons:
- Start and Select buttons on the original SN30 series are a bit oddly placed. Not too bad, but a bit of a stretch.
- Analog triggers are fine but could be far better. Very slightly mushy, DS4's feel way better.
- The feel is nice, but definitely not 1st party console controller-tier.
- When it's on really low battery it occasionally craps out all the USB devices on my PC for a second or two. This could just be on my end though.
- Aforementioned quality control issues

I upgraded from a DS4 and it's been one of the best hardware purchases I've made in years. If you're a PC guy who likes playing emulators or steam games with a controller, I think they're really worth it. The M30 is also awesome.

It honestly annoys the fuck out of me and I wonder why they did it. They're not uncomfortable to get to and press or anything, but it is odd. I almost want a Pro 2 for that alone.

This is /vr/ so I'm not sure how much anyone cares, but don't buy these if youre looking to make use of gyro on PC. Im a heavy gyro user and bought one of these to replace a DS4. Don't. The way the software/drivers work prevents you from using both gyro and analog triggers at the same time. Dont know why but its shit. They even confirm it doesn't work on the Amazon store page

It looks nice, but why bother if xbone controller "just works" with PC and mobile without any drivers or setup. I guess OP is for some "serioz gamerz" with a handful of controllers for different platforms with fine-tuned setups. For casual /vr/ boomers xbone is not broken and doesnt require fixing.

>it just werks

That depends on the controller, the operating system and how you want to use it.

Xbox360 works wireless and wired with all windows versions
Xbox One works wireless and wired except for windows 7 for which you need manually download and install the drivers (which MS was scrubbed from the internet)
Xbox Series works wireless (ONLY on W10 and Android) and only wired with windows 7/8 only after installing Xbox One gamepad drivers (which MS was scrubbed from the internet)

And last but not least the D-pad sucks ass for retro games, sure it's playable but why settle if you can easily find controllers that have a nicer d-pad and actually work universally wired or wireless. Xbox controllers are nice for modern games but if you're more into retro stuff I'd go for one of those in OP's pic. I hate MS so much its unreal.

Didnt xsx controller fixed dpad? On my xbone dpad is fine for straight directions, but I have no idea how to press diagonals on it. Fortunately this is not needed in Super Metroid and NES platformers, for other games (LttP) I mostly use sticks anyway.

You are confusing something about x360, I have both wired and wireless ones, and they are effectively the same, because wireless one requires hardware USB dongle. You are correct, that their compat is even better than xbone. But my 360 wirelese doesn't work with rechargeable batteries, when xbone work fine with any batteries.

Also, I understand that this is a retro board, and same people may prefer vintage setups with Win7 or Win95, but WTF is Win8?
