So now that the best retro tracker is dead where can we get clean dumps of games?

>> No.773369

ebay

>> No.773374

>>773367
almost anywhere, really

>> No.773459

>clean

Can you honestly tell the difference between a "clean" dump and a known "good" dump?

If you were interested in pursuing a serious endeavour of preserving the entire SNES library for posterity, you already fucked up by procrastinating. No self-respecting historian would allow himself any delay for something that may be lost the day after.

If it's just an OCD thing, there are still plenty of places on the internet.

If you have no idea why you specifically want a clean ROM set, other than "because the internet told me to do so or else they would think less of me", then you might as well download "regular" ROMs instead.

Polite sage.

Good riddance. Fuck UG and their ratio nazi bullshit.

I'm so glad I snagged all their Saturn games when I had the chance. I'd never find them anywhere else. ;_;

It's not dead yet, least don't give up hope just yet.

Suppose though, one could re-create it through a different means (DC++, KDX, or something).

>> No.773591

Anyone know of a good tracker that has Japanese releases of games? Most that I've seen have very few, and are only comprehensive with English releases.

>> No.773661

>>773591
It's not a torrent tracker, but you could check out Perfect Dark, I mainly use it for grabbing good rips of albums but I do grab games from time to time as well as other things.

I've been avoiding PD for a while because I've heard it's a pain to use, but I suppose I might as well give it a try. Thanks.

It will be easy to get PS2 dumps but the Saturn and Dreamcast stuff is gonna get real rare real fast. I really hope they come back up if only so I can grab the complete redumps of Ssturn and Dreamcast :(

>> No.773854

>>773731
I can understand it can take a while getting used to, but really it's quite easy.

Only "pain" bit would be the Unity size requirement, there used to be a crack you could get for PD so you could bypass the requirement but I don't remember where I got that from.

>> No.773937

>>773854
All right, thanks. Might see if I can find any info on that crack you mentioned.

Would someone ven mind explaining what a "clean" dump is? Not a /vr/ regular.

>> No.774056

>>774003
From my understanding:
"clean" in terms of a cartridge-based dump would be one that is not over dumped, has no Scene intro inserted to play when you boot the ROM. I also think for some, a header should not be present in the dump, but I can't fully remember.

Now for a disc-based dump it would be something like not in ISO format, mainly since when you rip to ISO you may lose things like if the game had CD Audio. So the usual format for a clean CD dump is CloneCD.

Again, just from my understanding of it, I probably didn't cover something.

Practically anywhere on the internet, you mongoloid.
This isn't the mid 90s where you'd have shit roms everywhere.

>> No.774154

>>774071
It's not just roms you need to worry about though.

>> No.774191

>>773367
Sorry, what did that used, to do, no I usually dont do anything further than simply emulation from coolrom so i would be glad to know for what it served?

>> No.774194

>>773367
Google No-Intro's website.
Find what the latest release for the system you want to emulate is. Get the .dat
Go search random torrent and DDL sites until you find something that claims to be that up-to-date set. Download it.
Get ClrMAMEPro and use the .dat you downloaded earlier to verify your set.
Congratulations. Assuming you trust No-Intro, you now have a verified clean set for your system. If you're emulating a system with a mature library of dumps, you'll probably never need to update it again.

>>773459
What the fuck are you even talking about?
People want actual ROMs and not a million bad dumps, overdumps, dumps from Chinese pirate carts, and shitty hacks like GoodSets collect. They just want a collection of only the true dumps of the games, verified by multiple parties. They want No-Intro sets.
If they were autistic enough to take matters into their own hands by buying and dumping the entire collection of games for their system (cough byuu cough), they probably wouldn't even want to emulate in the first place.

>>773509
What the fuck? It was pathetically easy to get a good ratio on UG. I seeded semi-regularly for a few years, then never seeded again while downloading whatever I wanted. Pretty sure I still had dozens of gig of ratio left when the site died.

>autistic enough to take matters into their own hands by buying and dumping the entire collection of games for their system (cough byuu cough)

I don't want this to become another shitfest argument over byuu and bsnes, but he didn't buy the entire set to dump the games, he did it to get high-res scans of every box and manual. Archival stuff.

>It was pathetically easy to get a good ratio on UG.
Even easier if you used an upload faker. I was over a terabyte positive when it shut down.

>> No.774215

Though it was damn easy to get and maintain a excellent ratio without an upload faker.

I was joking, I love that man for his dedication.

Man, I don't seed that much, but that's just rude.

Does nobody here know about PleasureDome? They have full Saturn sets from multiple different groups for chrissakes, not to mention GC/PSX/FBA/MAME/MESS/PMAME and a gazillion other things. Go sign up already.

I thought he gave up on the manual scanning. You also forgot that he also put together memory mapping information for the different cartridges.

>> No.774302

I didn't forget that, but he didn't need to collect every NTSC game to do that.

>Japan arrests downloaders outright

How sad for them. Weird though.

>> No.774324

>>774307
I thought they only arrested those who uploaded to Perfect Dark?
Though they did pass a stupid anti-piracy thing in the past year over there.

>> No.774338

>>774324
I was glancing at Wikipedia, but it mentions a couple people who were arrested for downloading. One or two mentions of uploading cases too though.

>> No.774535

>>774338
The Wikipedia article clearly says this:

>On 1 January 2010, a more stringent copyright law went into effect in Japan that rendered the intentional unauthorized download of copyrighted material illegal, even for private use. Japanese authorities have not arrested any person responsible for illegal downloading yet, but have arrested a number of people accused of uploading copyrighted material.

I'm not aware of any people arrested for downloading, although it is illegal. Japan comes down really hard on piracy. Shouldn't matter for any foreign users, though.

>> No.774554

>>774275
Do they have Japanese games? Or are the sets only for Western releases like usual?

>> No.774568

>>774535
>On 11 April 2013, a 39-year-old man from Kasuga City was arrested for downloading copyrighted material from Kadokawa Shoten, Nintendo and manga creator Hideaki Sorachi.[7]

Is right under that, hence my confusion.

Japan has a lot of laws that aren't enforced in any way. It's illegal to not pay your TV tax, but nobody has ever been charged because the law does not have any penalty imposed. It's also illegal to not pay child support, but many parents (read: fathers, since the child always goes to the mother unless she is a proven drug addict, and ONLY if she is a proven drug addict) don't and the courts don't do shit all to help the mothers even if they ask. It's also illegal to export pornographic materials out of Japan but I've done it three times now, never get in trouble

>> No.774636

it's like people don't know how to download shit from the internet unless its a torrent. have you guys never used google and only use tpb as a search engine?

>> No.774667

>>774554
To clarify, I mean the Japanese releases of games.

>> No.774673

Missed that somehow. Someone should update the article and remove the part about no one having been arrested for downloading yet.

Well a clean dump is when it just plops out with nothing left on your booty meaning you don't have to wipe. A good dump is one that feels good when it comes out but you still have to wipe.

Thankfully you don't have to wade too much, as they have those lovely Master List pages.
