FFTA was awesome, the only thing that I found obscure to understand as a kid was how the location of the cities influences things (I believe you can get different rewards etc. for different placements). I think the game didn't explain that too well, although it's honestly been a long time.

Sure, it's rough in places, mostly a trial and error game and a bit unfair, but damn, it was one of those games that really tried to be "more" than a game.

Even the way it is presented is meant to be in the style of classic horror films which was pretty original and surprisingly "cinematic" in a good way, the music is pretty timeless for this reason as well and still great to listen to today. Hearing "Out of Time" near the end really sends chills down my spine and Vampire Killer is a fucking classic.

I just remember playing it back in 2019 for the first time and really loving it despite the difficulty and then reading up about how Akamatsu used films as his influence and the ideas behind Dracula's final form being the "curse of man" or how the gears in the clock tower represent Dracula's heart and when you defeat him only that part of the Castle crumbles. Shit you wouldn't even think about as you play but when you delve deeper you can see it was actually thought out to an impressive degree for a 3rd Gen video game, at a time when this shit was just some shit you'd sell for profit and nothing more.

Oh yeah true that didn't even come to mind when I wrote the first post, the judge system was pretty dope. Although sometimes you could cheese the hell out of levels with the laws. One of the bosses was this weird crystal thing that could only cast a confusion spell (I forgot the name of the spell, but you lost control of the characters and they would attack friendlies), so you could just wait until the law forbade using these spells and the boss would do nothing.
Man this makes me want to play the game again, I think I'll load it up later today.
