I bought a Japanese Dragon Warrior Monsters for Game Boy Color for £10 because it looked cool and I thought it would be playable even though I can't speak Japanese. Turns out RPGs are pretty much completely pointless if you can't understand the story.

Found a site that had this Game Gear gem that wasn't ever released in the US. It's definitely pretty cool to have a portable Panzer Dragoon game since there aren't any Sega Saturn emulators for Android or anything, but $100 was pretty expensive. Time Stalkers.

It does some interesting things when it comes to tackling dungeons and raising your monsters, but overall the horribly dated graphics, the bad camera, and the fact that an enemy who's several levels beneath me can suddenly start hitting a 20+ on my monster out of nowhere is starting to wear on me. I loved Time Stalkers though. It also had a lot of extras for VMUs, little games and stuff. There was a drawing app I really liked.

>> No.773251

Like I said, it had some really interesting ideas like starting each dungeon from level one, four items, and basically surviving off what you can find while going through the dungeon. I can't say much about the VMU games cause my VMU's battery has been dead for years. I really need to replace it.

The battles are obnoxious though. It's either the enemies are piss easy, or they blow right through your shit and keeping your allies alive is a bitch since they seem so weak compared to you. Not to mention that more than often, the battles take place in the most awkward spots and cause the camera to completely obstruct your enemies and what you're doing.

I purchased DX:IW on release only to realize it wouldn't run on my PC, and I couldn't return it. So I shelved it, and eventually played it on Xbox.

Honestly a really good game aside from the universal ammo. That was the worst and laziest decision the devs could have made. They obviously just didn't want to bother strategically placing different ammo drops, and it practically forces you to at least be proficient in melee, reducing options in terms of build.

I also got Darksiders but haven't played it yet. I have all these recent games on my backlog, and once /vr/ began I've started to focus on the older stuff. I don't think I've even ran Steam in over a month.

>> No.773635

Don't get me wrong, IW is good, it just felt rushed and a bit lazy, like the devs didn't care about the game, only to finish a game and put Dues Ex on the cover. I had heard it wasn't up to par with Dues Ex, but I wondered why, so when I found it, I bought it, expecting people to be wrong as always with games I play. It was disappointing.

The game I regret buying least was Altered Beast followed by Batman Returns and Ecco (because I now have a SCD) and the games I regret buying most were the unknowns: Air Diver (I thought it'd be like a 2D Starfox game but it's more like a flight-sim where you can't turn) and Buster Douglas KO Boxing (a boxing game with the depth of Rock'em-Sock'em Robots).

I bought this in an impulse thinking it was the japanese version of River City Ransom, because the titles were similar.

Worse yet, I already bought another Kunio sports game with it. But the more the merrier, I guess.

>> No.780128

375 for loose earthbound? Blue cart perfect dark? What the fuck are you dudes thinking?

My regret would be battle cars, looked like F-zero/twisted metal on snes. But it was shitty. Paid 6 bucks, wasn't worth it at all.

Maybe the impact of earning for it and purchasing it set your expectations too high...

Then again it is pretty shithouse

I purchased Castlevania Dracula X for the snes not too long ago for $60 bucks, is that good?

>> No.780363

3D Dot Game Heroes, not really disappointing or anything just not that good, so I guess I regret it. It's also the most recent I could think of. Sorry it isn't retro.

if your dreamcast wasn't made before Dember 1999 (I think) you'll have trouble playing burned games. However having trouble burning them is another story entirely.

You may have better luck just buying them. Most Dreamcast games aren't that expensive (yet).

i got a sealed LoZ:AoL famicom disk from a used game store in japan for $20 USD and opened it so LOOK AT DA PICTURES

in my defense i thought it was just resealed by the game store and not a factory sealed game

I really loved that game up until the dragon boss.

It isn't hard, but I was trying to get the trophy for not getting hit, and I never finished the game because I couldn't do it.

It made me realize that as much as I enjoyed Zelda 1 about 10 years ago, I don't really enjoy it as much anymore.

>>780448
That sounds sort of interesting, did the game ever stop relying so much on Zelda 1 mechanics, enemies, items, etc? I expected some similarities but damn if it wasn't uncanny sometimes.

>> No.780526

>>780487
The bosses are all really boring and generic, and mostly everything is Zelda 1 in 3D in the first playthrough (except for the weapon crafting)

Then you unlock some nice difficulties (one hit and you're dead from everything and stuff like that) and the game really changes.

I recently purchased a third-party arcade stick for the PlayStation. I haven't gotten it yet, but I get the feeling I might have made a mistake.

If for whatever reason it won't work on PS2, then I'll know for a fact that I made a mistake. I've got some re-releases of some old SNK fighting games that are dying for some non-d-pad action.

The 1-hit Spelunker mode is pretty cool, at least.

And the soundtrack totally rules.

Probably because you had super high expectations. For a game that I found in a used games bin when I was 12, I have to say that it was a pretty ok.

I felt the same way you felt when I bought Skyrim.

I would have to go with Wave Race 64 for the Wii Vitural Console. Bought it because the internet praised the game for its water physics (which are awesome). However, it has nothing going for it besides that. Not worth $10.
