honestly this just makes me think that nintendo blew their load too quickly on shoving a rom together on the 3d "all-stars". They could have remade like the ds version with modern graphics, music, ctl, etc. But now will have to wait another decade or so before having another opportunity to try the idea. Now that this is out it's kidna too late.
But then again i don't think it really matters to them. They still made just as much with a fraction of the cost.

Ray tracing is such a con job for current graphics cards, it makes crap all difference and is nowhere near as good as even really old movies.

The one thing the pc version of mario did have right is having shadows in the style of those old renders like in dkc, the really sharp hard shadows that you really notice, the video looks like blurry crap but people will praise it because it makes your video card go slow so that must mean its really good.

>>7723883
You need your own rom, the program just extracts everything and all the previous stuff is still on github.

Looks kind of shit to be honest. The saturation and contrast is cranked up way too high. When will we get to the point where it just looks like someone's made papercraft models of the levels and lit them with sunlight?

SM64 has shit graphics and no art direction. Textures can either be cartoony or they can be actual photographs. They don't mesh well, everything looks incomplete and Peach's castle doesn't even have a back. This project looks bad because it's just SM64 without nostalgia power protecting it.
Still a great game, mind you. The awful graphics are charming, like bad special effects in a 50s movie.

>The saturation and contrast is cranked up way too high.
probably due to the fact that SM64 uses strong base colors for its bigger environments, resulting in the bounce lighting being way, way overbearing. if you were to do something like raytrace Galaxy or Odyssey, even in those games the colors are simply not as strong and thus wouldn't be so fucky.

To answer your question. The reason it doesn't look quite like the render is the textures are still low res and not normal mapped. Light bounces around, but it doesn't exactly have much to work with.

At that point why bother? The N64 was never pushed to process anything like that. You could at least argue the lighting properly adds to the scale that the devs intended, but that falls apart fast when you have things like this to consider.

>> No.7728331

>>7727815
offline rendering is very different from real time graphics, if you were to run it as is (pretending compatibility issues don't exist) the render time would probably still be a few minutes per frame
if you recreate it and take advantage of modern optimizations/rendering techniques, yeah you get a real time render that looks really close to it

That's not the issue. My problem with it isn't that it doesn't look like the promotional renders. The render 96 project and the ray tracing mod are two separate things. I'm talking specifically about the ray tracing. It just looks terrible regardless of the assets. Just try to imagine that someone's made a model in real life of one of the levels using all of the original textures and lit nicely. That's what the ray tracing should be approximating. Instead it just looks garish and unnatural.

lots of high poly models back then were generally built off of nurbs shit

think of a nurbs curve in blender for example. it follows a path and can render a really high poly wire.

they modeled the dkc models with nurbs iirc so i wouldn’t be shocked if pixar either did that or some sort of different eldritch fuckery

Graphically there's nothing to do with it aside from making deepfake images and videos to frame people for crimes with.
Ray-tracing is a needless thing in graphics, and I'll tell you why.
1. The Switch is kicking everyone else's asshole inside out with 2016 Nvidia Shield technology.
2. Minecraft is the #1 game on earth and it uses pixelated textures and polygons from a 1992 PC game.

Ray-tracing is the gimmick of all gimmicks to sell retards new $500 game consoles/graphics cards because the GPU makers and Sony/MS are officially out of ideas. Literally all they have now are their AAA games. Ray-tracing in graphics is pointless, you won't even notice or care unless you look for it and even then it's minimal.

Shit is garbage. But programmers are out of ideas too. "Oh look, here's Mario 64 with some RTXXX, like and subscribe!"
Fuck off. Program some smarter enemy AI for a change you literal faggots. It's no wonder supercomputers can't model accurate shit, modern programmers SUCK.
