I have CIB WarioWare Twisted and Drill Dozer, because I don't like emulating those two. I don't know if either is valuable, I just bought them when they were new and kept them since they were interesting.

GBA is too much of a shitshow for me to bother collecting or investing money into, I'd rather just buy one-off JP carts, or use a flashcart, or just emulate. The NA carts market is just retarded thanks to all the COVID money and all the counterfeit carts out there.

Nope. The "Nintendo PlayStation" prototype was a PlayStation that was backwards compatible with SNES cartridges. The Philips CD-ROM attachment for SNES never came to fruition because they watched the Sega CD flop, along with the Nintendo-themed Philips CD-i games.

>I don't bother with GBA much; It has a really underwhelming library to me

Respectfully, what do you mean? I don't even care for RPGs and GBA has an amazing library of beautiful platformers that play great. If you look at top sales charts that's one thing, but what about hidden gems like Alien Hominid and DragonBall Advanced Adventure. Or outright classics like Warioland 4, castlevania and Megaman zero? GB/C can't stand toe to toe with any of that stuff

>Who cares, I never said it had the same specs.
It's not even close to a portable SNES though, doesn't even have the same CPU architecture. Is the Switch also a portable SNES? Many of its games are just SNES games.

>Nintendo fans claiming the PlayStation was the true successor to the SNES is revisionist history.
It's real, true history. Nintendo panicked and released the N64 because of the console gap. The Gamecube is Nintendo's true successor to the SNES, unlike the stopgap N64. But that puts them an entire console generation behind, a status they have maintained since. Heck it could be argued that the console gap between Nintendo and the competition is even wider now, the Switch being a mere glorified cell phone. Compare it to the PS5 or the Xbox 1480, which rival current high-spec gaming desktops.

Nintendo ultimately decided at one point that making fun games would sell more units than trying to compete to see who could put the biggest supercomputer into an edgy looking box. And ultimately this is paying off big time for them.

So Nintendo lost on all technical fronts ever since the SNES, but won the greater war of sales.

>> No.7724138

I mean, it totally can. It has triple the Wario Land games, a lot of people will argue are better than 4.

If you like traditional Castlevania games, then the GB games are the way to go, and the music is actually dn good in those games.

If you also prefer traditional Mega Man games, the Game Boy actually has those as well, in spades. Nothing wrong with the Zero series or Battle Network, bit if you actually want to play Mega Man, the GB was the way to go.

The GB has tons of it's own hidden gems in it's gigantic library, stuff like Turtles 3 is an amazing Metroid game that people almost never talk about, and it's also home to absolute classics like all the Zelda games, original Pokemon games, and many more.

It's not like you can't like both, but believe me the Game Boy has established the legacy known today for a reason.

BTW Nintendo was flaky so Philips switched to backing Sony, who they already had a long history of partnership with. Also during the time the Nintendo Playstation was in development memory chips, both RAM and ROM, became incredibly expensive due to some shit that went down in Asia and this caused Philips to say they didn't want to rely on cartridges at all because CDs can be pressed for $0.25. Nintendo wouldn't budge, that was that.

I spent the middle days of my collecting picking up CIB GBA games whenever I could. I emulated the system when I was 11 and already had a ton of video game systems that drank up my child-money/video game present budgets, so I found the emulator and tried a whole bunch of random games.

CIB GBA and GBC were a cool market for a long time - you'd get great stuff in good shape for 50 or under a lot of the time. People caught up with it and it's pretty pricey nowadays.

Rarest I probably own is Boktai 2 but most valuable is Aria of Sorrow.

Yes, it's more powerful than the SNES, but you cannot escape the fact that a significant chunk of the GBA's library consists of ports or remakes from the NES and SNES. The system has a very poor library compared to the Game Boy or even the Game Boy Color because of how inundated with ports and remakes it is. The system has no real identity other than "portable NES and SNES games."

The Game Boy Color is mostly just Game Boy games rereleased with color and a shallow number of original titles that you’d expect a stopgap console to have.
