You know full well the graphics are made less complex so that they could fit all those cars on screen, with that speed, and get a smooth 60 FPS. For the time it was great from a technical standpoint and obviously the gameplay holds up.

My point was the game doesn't even resemble a racer. Drive a million miles per hour into a wall in F Zero and you're barely punished. I've never played Forza but one look at it and you instantly get a real sense of speed while F Zero is an embarrassing mess by comparison.

Fzero x is a good racing game with basic graphics. The best on the n64? Maybe if you like the mechanics of the pits and the turning and the way courses are and the difficulty and the vehicular combat. I wouldn’t say its bad in any case. Its ok if you like wipeout better, lots of people do.

Fzerox impresses with a smooth framerate at first, leaning on its cutesy rock guitars and sensation of speed to keep it interesting but I'm gonna be honest the illusion wears off after 30 minutes. The tracks aren't fun to race thru, they can't escape how similar they all feel to one another. I never feel a unique challenge or sense of trepidation over what certain courses present. There's like a few gimmick gag moments where racers fly off the track and die but beyond that I'm not planning my approach, securing the optimal line against someone else, using weapons or any satisfying interactions with the opponents. At the end of the day I walk away from fzerox seeing it as nintendos brag, "the 64 can totally do 60fps!" And I can say i totally don't care and I'll play sega rally instead.
