The SNES' 16-bit processor allowed it to display 256 different colors simultaneously from a palette of 32,768 possible colors.

Pretty sure it can do more than that. It's well known that jungle levels in DKC can do 1000s of colors at once iirc.

This is how you spot emulationiggers and zoomerfags who never played a real SNES and possibly never had a CRT.

The blue Yoshi looked unquestionably purple on an NTSC TV. I don't know about PAL shit and don't care.

>> No.7721780

>>7721760
I can't find anything that supports that claim.
I'm aware of color display tricks on the Genesis that were used to exceed display limits of 64 colors though.

It's a weird phenomena where light blue looks like purple, even though it's pure blue.

In RGB color space, it's 141 Red, 139 Green, 247 Blue, each out of 255.

It is very, very slightly skewed towards being purple. The peculiar thing is that increasing the amount of green can make blue look more blue, even though it's shifting towards cyan.

SNES wasn't powerful enough to render the color blue but the intent was there.

If you think about it, "blue" is a little too vague of a name. It covers way too many shades of color.

Blue covers as much of the color spectrum as red and green do.
In RGB color space, red, blue, and green are the primaries.
Yellow, Cyan, and Magenta are secondaries where they're equal mixes of red/green, green/blue, and red/blue.
Everything else between primaries and secondaries are tertiaries.

The problem with the common ROYGBIV sequence is that it's only accounting for 6 of the 12 primary/secondary/tertiary colors, whilst throwing in Indigo which doesn't fit in.

The only reason "ROYGBIV" is a thing is because Sir Isaac Newton wanted there to be seven colors because he was into Kabbalah. "Indigo" is 100% culturally constructed.

It's a localization thing, mistakes are made, especially in retro games of that time period.

In Japan, Yoshi is more commonly referred to as a Dragon and this is a persistent thing in later games.

But, they also later go on to say that Yoshi is a turtle.
