If you want a specced out Famicom display piece, go for it. But if you only want to actually play FDS games just get the N8 Everdrive, it will even play FDS games on an NES.

>> No.7721247

Get an EverDrive N8 Pro or an FDS Stick. The real hardware (and software for that matter) are comically unreliable. It's a huge waste of money.

It's one of the things that made me interested in import gaming 20 years ago. It's fun, I enjoy the loading clicks and popping in disks, but in all honesty, not really worth the trouble. The drive belts are prone to melting and the disks are fragile.
The better option is to buy the RAM adapter and an FDSStick, that way you can play the entire library without emulating.

It has some good exclusives. But not enough to put up with how much of a pain in the ass it is to actually use it.

Only if you're using it to dump games. The belts are becoming increasingly rare, and third-party efforts don't last nearly as long. Use the stick thing instead.

are you retarded? how can you have new old stock rubber belts,? they're perishable! They could never become rare you imbecile, they are just drive belts. Watch the techmoan video on how he replaces all his

>>7721594
Belts are just, well, belts, even if the ones in question were some hypothetical non-standard size or something, it really wouldn't be hard to fashion a replacement, either by adapting an existing one or making a brand new one.

It's easier than replacing caps.

I'd like to buy one for purely aesthetic reasons. I have a famicom already and together they look sexy. But I don't think there's anything worth buying for it that wasn't already ported to a cartridge.

Don't know why people are acting like replacing a belt is some huge undertaking.

It would be if there were no guides about how to do it and set the spindle after, but there are so it's not that bad.

I've had a ton of fun popping in real disks and hearing those sweet clicks.

The disks themselves are indeed unreliable, though. I would reckon I've had about a 80% success rate with the 15 or so disks I've bought. Low compared to the near 100% of carts, but not as horrible as others have implied.

it's basically a budget flashcart, or used to be anyway. If you're spending any more than $50 on one I'd recommend just buying a flashcart.

It really isn't unless you've misaligned the head.
