why don't more companies reprint their old games?

the obvious answer is so that they can push people to buy new sequels or full priced remakes over clearanced original copies.

but square enix has no problem selling new final fantasies, and selling full priced ports and remakes, while those old games are still available for purchase on the original discs, on their website.

even then, nintendo specifically could absolutely sell reprints for the original MSRP. I really can't think of a huge reason for studios to not take advantage of this.
at least the studios who could print the specialized media

Sega should start re-manufacturing their old consoles (except for the Shiturn, since that thing has nothing redeeming about it whatsoever and deserves to be erased from existence).

Honestly, I'm surprised Sega hasn't been churning out seg CD through dreamcast games over the past few years.

Even limited run is getting in on it. You'd think Sega would have rereleased their first party stuff by now. It's not like they have a new console that they'd rather push fans to upgrade to.

Nope, they're newly minted copies.
Evident by the fact that they're pressed onto generic silver backed discs now instead of the classic black.

Is there any reason these couldn't be new copies from like 2001? Serious question.

Most companies would much rather skip the costs and hassle of manufacturing and just release the rom as a digital purchase.

Why they don't just do THAT more often, I don't know.

these games were still being made as black discs back then. at some point they added them to their website for order, and they're all silver. the ps2 games also lack the ps2 logo on the back of the disk iirc.

considering you could still get black discs through sony up until at least 2005, idk why they would opt out for silver anytime before then.

they also go out of stock, and go back in stock, and have been doing that for years. so to me it sounds like they're just making more as demand calls for it. it also wouldnt make sense that they would have overstock of all of these games: https://store.na.square-enix-games.com/en_US/games/all-games

idk what kind of deal they have with sony that lets them continue to print copies of these games, but it also applies to their psp, ps3, some DS titles. because those are still being restocked long after sony and nintendo shut down orders for more media. i guess you can get those kinds of deals when you're as big as SE.
my guess is that either SE themselves are making these, or they have some plant doing it. otherwise i see no reason the PS discs wouldn't be labled or colored.

idk it's weird, but it's cool they're still available. keeps the prices low

This is new stock. Some companies like Sega and Square Enix in particular will reprint anything for you if you meet their minimum order quantity. This is how the Square RPGs and Yakuza are widely available new.

Maybe this is cheaper to do for disc-based games, but Nintendo's first disc-based game was gamecube, which has a very small install base.

But this would explain literally any other company for PS1/2 games so i dunno, just spitballing

Nintendo is top retard. If they made more SNES Classics and sold them for $400 they would be sold out day 1. It's bloody retarded.

Sega has done it too, they reprinted a bunch of PS2 copies of Yakuza and Yakuza 2 back when Yakuza 0 came out in the west and made the series actually popular over here.

1. So that they can sell them digitally back to you on every new system they release.

2. Nintendo will never do this because they still see themselves as a "toy" company and thus everything has to come in an overpriced plastic package so 38-yr old coomllectors will buy it.

3. Some companies don't want you to revisit their old games because current management considers them "dead IPs" or "incompatible with their current brand."

4. Arcane Japanese licensing contracts and IP laws.

5. In some cases the source code has been lost.
