I've read that it has some of the best emulators for retro consoles, is it true?

It is true. Genesis GX is pretty good.

It doesn't have Duckstation so no, it's not true.

That is indeed true.

Get a MiSTer and use Duckstation for PS1 emulation , it doesn't get better than that and that's what most of us here on /vr/ do.

>> No.7716914

That is true. I use Retroarch for anything 8 or 16-bit.
Some anons on /vr/ hate it because it's too simple to use

the mister is way, WAAAAAY more niche than what you think
most of vr probably emulate on a laptop or android phone, those particularly fancy perhaps on a hacked vita or 3ds
me personally, these days i emulate everything on my switch
i wish it had a good saturn emulator...

No thanks. If I wanted to a miniature PC dedicated to only emulating up to 4th gen consoles, I would build one myself.

Most pathetic cope I've seen recently.

False. What's pathetic is you spamming/flooding the board with shilling the MiSTer and posting the same image over and over again, 24/7.

dosbox, pcsx2, dolphin, ppsspp, mame and some others are infinitely better outside of retroarch
for everything else, yeah its pretty good, what really sells it is all the extra features it haves like run ahead, shaders, crt switchres and what not
I understand why some people absolutely despise it, but for me it is pretty useful

>>7717325
that sounds awful to be honest
the main advantage of the ds and 3ds over the psp, vita and switch is the flip screen, so that they easily fit in a pocket without using any cover or case, without risking scratching a screen
but a 2ds....

that doesn't make it horrible. portable systems can be used around your house, you don't necessarily have to take it anywhere, and most people don't

And faggots on here have the audacity to claim this place is better than plebbit somehow?
It's literally worse now with deleting and censoring shit by tranny mods and all this place has left is stale-pasta shitposts from 6 years ago.

You pretty much nailed it. PPSSPP for example has like 10 frames of added input lag in Retroarch, pretty wild. The UI makes me want to eat a bullet though

Picodrive's new 'accurate' renderer seems to be better than PlusGX's. It nearly perfectly plays the Overdrive 2 demo where GX shit's the bed. Wasn't like that a year or two ago. It also runs that McDonald's Treasure Land Adventure easter egg perfectly where GX *and* BlastEm fucks it up.

The only hardware accelerated cores one should use are Mupen with Parallel RDP+RSP and Flycast. The other proper 3D ones are pretty trash. I would say Beetle but Duckstation dwarfs it and the standalone version is much better. I don't know why the core is so shitty but it needs cleaning up.

>> No.7717874

>>7717497
It's bad. I wish it wasn't, but it is. Something about the sound is broken in it. Seen a few little examples here and there of it not working where the standalone does.

saying retroarch has the best emulators for retro consoles is like saying Steam has the best collection of games.
Neither of them do anything other than host/provide other content so it's not really that good of a question.

Autists ITT will pick apart each and every core and demand a normie like you install and tweak every individual system but for like 99.9% of people RetroArch just werks for anything pre-2001
And PS2 is getting better and better as we speak

Turn on logging

I dont know if it has the best, but some of the cores like beetle are definitely one of the best options, and parallel with the parallel rsp is by far the best n64 emulation available. Practically perfect

But for everything 5th gen and below its all fantastic. But really the main reason to use retroarch is for its lagless vsync implementation (or console accurate timing options of you have a VRR display, as well as shaders and input delay mitigation features like runahead

It's currently kind of weak for 6th gen device emulation though. I really wish they'd update the dolphin core because as is standalone is kind of awkward with 30fps titles and screen refresh rates, where as the retroarch core handles the syncing perfectly

>> No.7719934

It has exclusive versions of some emulators like it's own versions of Mupen64Plus and Mednafen's modules. As an all-in-one emulation suite it's pretty great, though I much prefer the RGUI theme then the one it comes with.

Some of the cores are AMAZING

But, if you are looking for specific emulators, instead of a giant compilation, then you might not get a lot of use out it. Personally the genesis GX core, and ParaLLEl for n64 emulation are great, but I use mednafen for just about everything else or Dolphin for gamecube/ wii titles

I don't really like the interface for retroarch, its not personal, I just feel like some of the option menus lead you down rabbit holes inexplicably. I also am not a huge fan of tying everything under one emulator "roof" as it were or umbrella. I think their will always be a good reason to just use specific emulators like M.A.M.E. or Mednafen or for handheld stuff as well.

Retroarch is great for introducing bugs that don't exist in the standalone emulators.

>> No.7720029

>>7717854
Does it do 32x well though? I've had issues with PicoDrive running 32x games in the past.

>> No.7720080

It has the best N64, MD/GEN and DC emulators you can use. Also a hardware-powered fork of Mednafen's PS1 core with all the usual texture/overclocking bells and whistles added. Aside from those it's better to just use the standalone versions of the other cores.

>> No.7721071

>>7720080
I disagree, mostly because of input delay options and shader support. Most standalones don't have those

>> No.7721084

>>7721071
Retroarch has input delay options to fix the input delay it introduces by itself? That's nice I guess.

Not him, but I tested smw and I get 2 frames of input lag both on bsnes standalone and on RA if I don't turn on run ahead.
