For some reason, modern racing games don't cut it for me, but a few days ago I completed pic related and had so much fun all the way through. Besides Gran Turismo and Ridge Racer, what are some other 5th/6th gen racers you would recommend, arcade or not?

GT/GT2 were peak racing. The only thing that comes close is Indycar Racing, I had the MS-DOS version, the last one they release for MS-DOS and it was amazing.

The NFS games on PS1 were all very good, High Stakes was my favorite, desu the career isn't too different from GT, of course the licenses and stuff aren't there, and the number of cars is much smaller, but NFS still wasn't the crazy Fast & Furious style franchise that it is today, besides the Hot Pursuit mode of course, it featured a standard career where you went from tournament to tournament, getting money to spend on new cars, it was like GT but more simple, fun stuff.

I know EXACTLY how you feel. 7 years ago i went back to Ridge Racer Type 4 and never felt this much joy in life before. Still holds up and still no modern racers that come close to that, not even it's own successors.

I unfortunately don't have a retro game to recommend but in terms of modern ones, Driver San Fransisco is a really good one. Highly recommend that.

there is an archive of a pastebin with all actual free games on the internet, it even had a rayman remake on it.

still searching for it, the original pastebin got removed, don't know if you have it or at least have the link to the remake of the rayman game?

I do but I won't taint you with it because that remake is a casualized piece of shit that tones down the difficulty of the game. Play the original.

To be fair trying to find a higher quality racer than GT1/2 would be like searching for a blind nascar world champion. The games are orgasmically well designed, especially for the time.
Playing these with a negcon is pure fucking bliss.

The pasta got removed immiditley it was posted here. Even so it wasn't anything illegal, all games on this list were basically freeware, open source or remakes, and more.
Got Marble Blast Ultra for pc from it, as with this >>7715156 the original dev ported it over to pc.

I can understand why a corrupt as fuck society wouldn't like to see a list like that pasta

Tokyo Xtreme Racer, but for the DC because the PS2 ones have that ugly PS2 blur post-processing horseshit. Crazy Taxi 2 is very underrated as well.

Kart racers are somewhat fun but the manchildren who obsess over it disgust me. We get it, nostalgia, childhood innocence, pizza nights, we know, we know, in spite of all them being the exact same fucking game people can’t shut up about comparing them.
