>whole game prominently features red-yellow-green-blue palette that nicely matches Super Famicom logo/button colors
>switches and blocks have this palette
>even Mario logo got recolored this way
>American SNES releases with plain purple buttons

From what I know they wanted to make the NES and SNES as less toy-like as possible.

NoA didn't want it to be seen like a videogame console. It was an entertainment system, but they did want it to be seen as a toy. Rob the robot was one of the first ruse used to establish the nintendo entertainment system as something other than a videogame console. The power glove, zapper, rollinrocker, foot pad, etc.. all attempts to disguise the nes as a toy. You have to remember atari had just recently fucked up Royal and although it wasnt that bad internationally, in america the consumer market was fairly weary of investing in videogames.

How do you "distance yourself from videogame looks" while selling a videogame console? That's like trying to sell a real car as a hotwheels toy car because the real car industry is crashing.

The same way Lootboxes rebranded themselves as "Gacha".

i could see their logic, its just a common marketing tactic. like eg fast food companies try to present their fatass food as something healthy. they dont change the product but try to distance themselves from "fat" image only, see all the names like "family size" etc. or how Subway memed their subs as weight loss food, and so on. image is everything to them.
reminder that Nintendo also tried to be edgy in early 90s, see pic. they tried to pretend Kirby was brutal dude with 'tude. I really feel bad for the ad guy who had to do this one.

>OMG the four primary colors! How creative, they even updated the Mario logo to feature those colors!! ...b-but they aren't even on the US controller!!! WTFF
Wow, big whoop.

Best part of that ad is how innocuous the boxarts are, both of which clearly feature in the ad itself, and how "lame" the games look from the screenshots.

>> No.7711629

why the fuck did they pick lavender out of all colors though
