You got a badass MVS Big Red 6 Slot, with bitchin' stereo output, and you can put it wherever you like (your basement, your bar, your game store, whatever).

You can pick whichever games you want to go into the slots (excluding the 161-in-1s and flash carts).

What do you pick?

Hard mode:
You can only pick a single game from each genre for each slot . . .
Fighting
Shooter
Beat em up
Puzzle
Sports
Mixed Genre (like Metal Slug, Crossed Swords, Ninja Commando, Twinkle Star Sprites, etc.)

Extra Hard Mode:
Nothing released after SNK's first bankruptcy

MVS mode:
Absolutely no KoF or Metal Slug

If I had an MVS of any sort, it would basically just be a Neo Turf Masters machine. But if I had to pick 5 others, it would probably be:
>Neo Drift Out
>Garou
>Puzzle Bobble 2
>Aero Fighters 2
>Last Blade 2

Real talk here. I have a mvs I modded with the works. But I also have an AES.

Which should I keep? Both output quality is about equal. AES can play MVS stuff with the adapter. I have the unibios of course.
I want to get one of the flash carts for some reworked and changed games but I might sell my aes or mvs when I do that since they overlap. Anyone been in this situation before and chose one over the other?

Honestly, I don't mind if that's someone's preference. It's kind of the cool thing about the Neo Geo platform. It's steeped in a history of hacks, bootlegs and homebrew, even while it was still active, and if people are into that, then by all means.

Hell, if I could have a few specific hacks:
Metal Slug 2 Turbo
Samurai Shodown V (Xbox Hack or Perfect hack)
SVC Chaos (PS2 hack)
KoF 2000 (PS2 hack)
Crossed Swords II
Ironclad

AES has been known to have jailbars on it's output, but MVS can have bad timings. What kind of hardware mods have you done to them? Stuff to fix general output or normalize it? What are you doing for stereo audio on the AES?

>> No.7710743

>>7710692
For AES I did the RGB bypass setup. Which was basically some wire and it disables composite. AES I used the front port for stereo. Mine didn't have any of the issues since I had a model before that was an issue. I use HD retrovision cables for video and some 3.5 to rca cable for audio. Then of course unibios.

For MVS it is a single slot with plastic cover, unibios, supergun-mini (ypbpr is what I use), with AES controllers or dsub wired controllers (so really any type).

Other than that they are not modified anymore really. AES is smaller and looks cleaner on a shelf but MVS has more output options I won't use and controller options I might use I suppose. Though other than that still not sure. I only plan to get one of the Neo SD pro flash carts. I just can't tell if there is something I could do with the AES/MVS that I can't do with the other, off the top of my head, they seem pretty identical.

They were defective if you are trying to say more likely to fail. But that is barely a thing. MVS/AES hardware was pretty decent quality wise. As long as you get to it before some caps or similar leak.

MVS Mode:

>Fighting
The Last Blade 2 based on its tight gameplay and beautiful theme and audiovisual style, with some stages having no music at all, just ambient sounds of cicadas and grass rustling in the wind, though I wouldn't object to having Garou: Mark Of The Wolves in my cabinet instead, seems like a tight and beautiful fighter as well.
>Shooter
Most difficult decision in the entire cabinet. I was pondering between Viewpoint (for its timeless audiovisual presentation and a few interesting gameplay ideas), Blazing Star (for its superb visuals and seemingly easy accessibility) and Sonic Wings 3/Aero Fighters 3 (because you can play as a dolphin pilot with a drum'n'bass soundtrack) for a while and then settled on Viewpoint, but either of the other ones would also be fine.
>Beat Em Up
Is Top Hunter: Roddy & Cathy enough of a beat em up? I don't really care about the genre but this game seems really interesting with some platforming and shooting mechanics thrown into the mix. Otherwise I'll have to waste a slot on Sengoku 3 or something.
>Puzzle
Puzzle Bobble 2, the rest of puzzle games on the platform just seem rather mediocre.
>Sports
Windjammers. Neo Turf Masters seems like an excellent arcade golfing game but Windjammers just draws me in more mechanically.
>Mixed
Since you've offering it to me I'm gonna put Twinkle Star Sprites in here even though personally I would've considered it a shmup. If Roddy & Cathy doesn't pass as a beat em up it goes here instead.

Love how SNK attempted to blow out the "puny little SNES" by advertising on the case spine how monumentally large Neo Geo games were in comparison, with SNES games weighing in at 4 MB to 6 MB regularly and up to 48 MB in extreme cases.

Is the Neogeo even worth it if you're not a fan of Vs. fighters? Seems like its library is pretty sparse and sucky outside of that genre which SNK loved milking to death.

>> No.7713405

>>7713373
Unless you're a die hard fan of something that's on the Neo Geo and you're pissing money, not really. Systems, either the home console or the arcade board, are nearly impossible to come by nowadays because people are holding onto them, and the more desirable games cost hundreds of bucks each and in some cases even more than that. Prices have become absolutely bizarre.

It is easy as fuck to get one but the price is a bit higher than any other systems by a good bit really. Cheaper for arcade/MVS if you put the effort to consolize it your self.

The issue is that outside of fighters there are like 40 or so titles worth owning. The flash carts range hundreds of dollars to $600.

I think most people would for sure put at least one or two of those in a cab (and in general there's plenty of discussion in those games; Hell we had a giant discussion on the Metal Slug series just the other day), but the Neo Geo has a pretty awesome library, even besides those games, so in general I would encourage people to explore those.
