I've been playing MetaDoom and quickly became one of my favourites,I love the way Marauder was done but man..he's much harder to deal with than in Eternal.

Granted,I set that you fight him after you get a Superweapon (BFG etc) but the places he spawns can be a real pain.

It's completely random,is either early or late in the map.

I had a similiar experience with Doom 2 Map 10.
That one is filled with enemies but he appeared literally at the beginning and there's like 6 Pain Elementals and ran out of ammo,had to resort on my inventory.

Still I don't feel shitting on this mod so harshly,is less an issue with the enemy itself and more when he spawns.

my experience with the marauder in metadoom is that i used the secret difficulty setting (uv+) just to have more spawns and used to to meet him sooner
so far, i haven't had that much issue with him, as long as i don't make him spawn the wolves

Ehhhhh. Dark skin tone alone doesn't make it, Hunter is more bronze or even heavily tanned than actually brown anyway (the stereotypical sci fi Amazon). QC Athena is definitely black as is the Q2 Athena player model; QC Athena also borrows outfits from the other playermodels, like Jungle for her lore skin. The last bunch of avatars also included unused Hunter concept art that's definitely separate from Athena's.

It seems almost like the modelers- internal and the ones hired out- were given super specific instructions from someone higher up and tried to work around it as much as they could. You can tell a lot of love went into the assets, hell, a fair amount of the outsourced stuff is from Russkies who've been playing Quake for decades and you can tell with all the fanservice to older games and how well some characters like Visor were remade. But for the girls you've got this situation where all the body stuff is there- Slash has glorious derby girl thighs and not much up top just like her Q3A self, Nyx has a literal 10/10 body that still looks realistic enough when combined with her imperfect skin, split ends, etc. to elevate the package way above a cookie cutter Pixar body like totally-not-a-competitor OW waifu cast, etc- but then their outfits have to have a certain amount covered up. Nyx has a bit of leg and one arm open (what an arm, though). Slash's leotard and grody implant-sunglasses are gone. Even Galena in her plate armor is stacked as fuck but it's only explicit in one and a half skins.

Speaking of skins, someone went and uploaded shots of every single gun skin to the Quake wikia so that's neat.

It's a different plane of existence, anon. Doomguy from DOOM 16 times is in Dreamlands and yet the events of that game and Eternal did happen. He wasn't absorbed from there literally: maybe that's the case for another near identical universe, but that doesn't really change the point.

Animation framerate is controlled by self.nextthink. Normally its set to time+0.1 (10 FPS). Most monsters use animation sequences that automatically set this framerate. But you can override that by setting a different nextthink in their frames. Like self.nextthink=time+0.1*self.speedmult.

The animation sequences are really kind of unfun to work with imo, they make adding things like this tedious. They could generally be rewritten into one looping function that increments frame, attacks on a certain frame, and returns to the run state after the final frame. That way you can easily change framerate for the entire sequence.

I tested this again with QSS and the bindings worked fine, and that Wraith precaching issue didn't occur again.

In any port, idclevXX where XX is the number of the map will take you to the start of the map with a pistol.
in gzDoom (Since you mentioned console) "map *" will reset your current map, with pistol again. You can use console command "bind [X] map *" where [X] stands in for a symbol you are unlikely to use to bind map resetting to this button.
To my knowledge there's no way to reset a level with non-pistol loadout like that, although gzDoom autosaves all levels at the start.

I'm taking a small break from my break to make a bugfix and slight balance update. I'm fiddling with the magic boomerang and giving it a radius stun effect, and I'll be making the fire boomerang a little more bombastic, at least for feedback. I'll have it drop a single normal candle flame on direct hit, that should burn shit good.
The sword now swings faster too, I've been watching a few people play the set and I gotta say it's kinda shitty having to swat enemies repeatedly with the wooden sword, it was bothering me at times in the past, I just didn't consider it a real problem until watching more people have to do the same thing. Besides that, I've also buffed the fireball spray from the fire arrows, as well as changed out their hit sound, there's also a shorter cooldown between fire arrows now. The normal candle flames burn for longer too, and no longer push enemies away, so you should be able to get enemies caught in patches of fire easier now.

Besides this I've also buffed the fire rate of the shotgun of the default set, sped up the altfire cram attack on it, made the Vulture fold up the barrels if you hit altfire and don't have a charge for the laser, sped up the cannon's autofire a little, and buffed the shells it shoots.

The Tech Monk's moon beam is slightly weaker as well, I want it to burn through ammo really fast and it was a little too efficient with its current damge.

I've also done a bunch of other shit too but it's getting to be a big post, I should have this little patch out soon, then I'm going back to my vacation.

TL;DR I'm tweaking and fixing shit, Zelda sword swings faster, fire is better, blue boomerang has AOE stun, default shotgun shoots faster, and there's other crap on the way. I'm going to bed, goodnight.

Well, that's weird. Each has own taste i guess. I loved it from start to finish. Gameplay was good, and flow of maps was good. Non-linear but not too non-linear. I didn't feel that the techbase theme burned me out. Each map had lot of outdoor areas with green grass and blue water. Lot of shaded of red, green and blue inside techbases too. New textures were well done. There are lot of techbase maps with vanilla textures too and i don't hate those either.

I would recommend the second episode though, if you didn't like first. It has much more variety in textures and colors. There is one techbase map if i remember correctly, but rest are those ancient ruins.

I think E1 is a little overrated. Nothing remotely bad about it, and in fact is pretty fun, IMO. But it definitely feels like nearly every level was going for the same style of techbase, and certainly doesn't help that a lot of textures are literal recolours.
Really needed more levels in the city style that Bingo Pool Hall of Blood was doing, I think.

E2 however, I actually think is pretty solid. While a lot of it is temples/ruins, theres a much larger variety of textures and styles to it, and a few rare maps that return to the techbase, so its nowhere near as samey as E1. I also think it has a stronger sense of adventure and atmosphere to its level design, where as E1's atmosphere was mostly carried by the music.

The Possessed Soldiers are clearly inspired by the HECU but they look so much worse.
For starters they're too blocky,like Ranger in Q1 but the latter had details to back it up.

The wad actually just got released. I was hoping she had evolved as a mapper, but unfortunately her maps in this suffer from same things as the Technicolor antichrist box. It's got that nice drug dream aesthetic, but the gameplay is just painfully boring and uninspired. I don't know why she doesn't just make an original game. She has great imagination, but she doesn't seem to be interested in Doom gameplay.

I do hate the fact in this new colorful-gzdoom-slaughter movement, how unimaginative the gameplay seems to be. Most of these are novice mappers, who shouldn't be making projects of this scale. They could use gzdoom and you can create all kinds of combat scenarios thanks to zscript, but yet most boom wads create more unique and imaginative combat sequenced. I have to say at least stuff by Aurelius and Bridgeburner is fun to play. Bridgeburner is like bastard child of Dragonfly and Ribbiks, and Aurelius really took everything he could do with gzdoom on Ar Luminae. That wad some best and most unique combat sequences I have seen.

Finally got around to finishing Sigil and boy that last map was disappointing. While I did have an "oh crap" moment when fighting the Cyberdemon as I barely had enough ammo I was expecting more to the level. Overall it was good and much harder than other Doom 1 wads I have played.

Yeah, they are a bit infuriating. I also dislike how I can't use one key to look up and one key to look down like in Heretic, because that feature is really useful when below me there's a pit of spectres and I have to guess if autoaim picks them up or I have to move the mouse a bit more. I kinda wish Heretic's features (and Hexen's mapping features) got implemented via a patch or something. Maybe even a pseudo-inventory where if you have 100 health you can pick up 3 stimpacks that get used one after another automatically when you drop below 50.
A subtle gameplay mod like that would be neat, maybe change the pistol to a revolver that fires slowly and isn't accurate after the first shot, but does 1.5x damage all across the board and uses different ammo from the chaingun so it mirrors the wand.
Ambient noises, environmental effects, polyobjects and ice/ wind physics like in Hexen could be neat, we could see some really atmospheric maps or some more intimate, restricted encounters that are made more challenging by the environment you are fighting in.
Oh yeah, and make all pinkies and spectres have the -fast parameter by default.

I'm neither an established Q1 mapper/modder nor anyone who sees eye to eye with dumptruck and co. in the first place, but my reasoning is basically:
-User-made Q1SP content, while not quite as endless as Doom wads, are extensive, still being made, and almost unanimously high quality. They build off of Quake and are made by players, for players, who understand why they're playing Quake in the first place. This isn't to say people don't make off the wall mods- holy shit do they and they have been for decades, stealth Quake, skateboarding Quake, rally-cars Quake, the list goes on- but more that people 'get' the game, if that makes sense, and they respect the players they're making content for. Any triple-A remake/reboot/etc, by virtue of existing at all, has to be scaled down for the lowest common denominator of players, in complexity, difficulty, etc. No phrase rings the death bell for something you like more than, "We're expanding the target audience."
-Quake isn't as big as Doom, even before the latter's new entries, and a new entry completely fucks search results relevant to the old one, especially with how search engines like to drop the '1' even if you include quotes. Finding info on some of the less popular aspects of Q1 modding and such is already difficult.
-This is sort of gate keeping I guess, but everyone who begs for reboots/remakes of old games just for the sake of it makes me want to puke. The games are still there! You can play them right now! They're one Google away! You don't want Game, you want "Game: A DEVELOPER CREATION" that just shares its leading title with the original one!
-I'm grumpy as FUCK and am tired of being told garbage like, "Doom Eternal is basically Quake," and "Quake was just a brown Doom clone," and "There's no reason to play the original when hip new games like DUSK™ exist," and I want all of these people to suffer.

I agree. I can understand remakes when the original is completely unavailable or from gameplay perspective makes sense like the Resident Evil 2 Remake was really good!

However with a lot of games it feels like people get overwhelmed with a nostalgia boner and for reasons they themselves probably don't know they want the game they already have experienced but with a shiny new coat of paint. And for the most part it's a waste of resources that could go into actually making a new game with interesting content but all the fansois are sealclapping at being sold the same experience all over again.

With Quake you just know there would be no modding possible on whatever reboot they came up with so it would divert the playerbase and actively hurt modding community as well.

That's true and I wouldn't want Quake to be "just another DOOM game". For a while I thought that making its gameplay closer to Hexen might be a great way to go. You know, kind of embrace some RPG elements Quake was supposed to have.

What I think might be the best way is to follow original Quake's path in terms of gameplay content, if that makes sense: base game with 1 or 2 DLC's/Expansions/Mission Packs that tell a story about Ranger getting back to his family and that's it. Double impact - modernized and challenging episode 1 replacement.

Nihility - Adds textures from alpha including weapon skins and many new monsters. Horror oriented episode, but still with classic Doom 1 gameplay

Alpha Accident - something like above, but also different. Has own set own new monsters and new gameplay impacting decoratings like crates that give you random items

When you think about it,Eternal felt so much close to the Quake expansions in some aspects.
So giving Quake a less campy but gritty style would definitely benefit.
Making it an all self contained game it's also the best choice because storytelling wise both Doom and Wolfenstein suffered a lot with their sequels.

Doom Eternal: over-exposition and made it more deep and convulated than it deserved. Samuel Hayden was completely ruined when he was a great character in Doom 4.
Art direction was an improvement but also filled with a lot non-Doom stuff that really lacked a proper identity.

Wolfenstein The New Colossus: an absolute mess tone-wise,unfocused and butchered Blazkowicz character,unnecessary flashbacks and overall inferior to the previous game in almost everything. New characters are wasted potential too.

So yeah,I want Quake to give its lore but not following what the others did too much,keep it simple.

Totally. It should be as simple as just selecting a Rune via mouse wheel/rip off of Wrath's system/Q+E/whatever + button activation or dedicating right-mouse button in case when its affecting a weapon.
Hardest part would be to proper integrate it in so it doesn't take the spotlight from shooting actual guns, but more of a extension of it. That's why I didn't considered the Dire Orb from Champions as I felt like that could be too much and just too overpowered. Although image on Ranger with Mjolnir in his hands and Spiked Sphere floating close to him would be as canon as possible if you know what I mean.

It's a 50/50 chance,he's far more busy than he was back in the 90s. One of his last works was for the main theme for a COD game around a decade ago.
Sonic Mayhem could make a gritty OST and they back on track would be nice,even if they make different music.

Pretty much. Although I thought about taking clues from Runes powerups in DoE and play from there, but its better to keep it to weapons.

...oh yeah, I would've made Mjolnir's alt attack use Mana instead of Cells because it makes more sense. Have it like Hammer attack in Eternal, but without the jump: raise it up and BOOM. It should've been a Soul Cube,not a Hammer.

I meant "like Eternal" in terms of attack animation, but actual attack being a direct copy of SoA... Although it might be obsolete since I would've turned Plasma Gun from DoE into Thunderbolt's altfire that takes a lot of cells. So idea with a stun shockwave could still work.
