SMT is a better series in general but Persona 1-2 are not half bad. It really jumped the shark with the VN/dating simulator BS.

You should stop breathing since people on Facebook consume oxygen as well or at least take your meds, you're acting up again.

May be the slowest battle system, lot of reliance on fusion, relatively easy, and card grinding can be a pain. The greatest strength is its scenario. That makes it a personal favorite but it very much has its fault and owes a lot of mystique in the west to its localization status being fucked both times it came out here. Would say worth a play through if nothing else same with 1 if not already done.

I genuinely liked it, most people who didn't grow up with it decide to go back to it with some pretty ridiculous standards though. Persona 2 isn't a streamlined FF7 experience that allows you to coast through so maybe that's the issue.

I think I changed my party's demons once aside fron the ultimate ones they gave you mid-late game. Fusion spells make the game so easy (especially pegasus strike in the early/mid game). I had so many fucking cards that I never used because of this since I'd grind a bit, get tired of fighting and just spam whatever makes the demons eager. Its definitely worth a play though, specifically innocent sin

His name is feelsguy you KYM redditor newfags.
To answer OP's question, IS is filled to the brim with very slow, easy encounters. As someone who has played all mainline SMT/persona games (aside from if) it is definitely the least fun when it comes to the battles.
With that said everything else is really good. The characters and their interactions really carry the game. If you can stomach the battles go for it.

It's Persona for contrarian hipsters, for when you don't want to be seen as as an SMT oldfag who's favorite is P1, nor do you want to be considered a newfag weebcuck who started with P3/4/5.

Encounter rate too high, battles too slow, big repetitive dungeons that offer little reward for exploration. Just like every smt game.

Oh it's 100% real, they made him black.

The main motivating factor for this, if you're wondering, was the same reason the currency is now in USD "$" instead of Yen. That's right, the entire game was made to take place in the United States of America instead of Japan. But they even did a lazy job at this, despite changing the way most of the characters look. (not just Mark. Nanjo for instance has lighter skin and blonde hair now.) For instance, the game still has shrines. Even the music with Japanese vocal lyrics in the stores is kept intact.

This has never bothered me and made sense with them changing the game to take place in America. I unironically think he looks better than the original.

If we are also counting If..., Persona only had four good games with Tsumi / Batsu being the last good 2D Shin Megami Tensei. Those PS2 Shin Megami Tensei that are not Persona shit were the last good stuff on the series, period.

i actually had pleasure to finally get ps2 emulator working and to my surprise it ran smt3 nocturne perfect. but it actually felt too "modern" for my taste. too much 3d environment movement, especially since i was coming fresh off smt if... which i really liked because it felt like playing ultima on console. so not sure why /v/ kissing nocturne's ass exactly for

It was the first ps2 game I finished on the emulator many many years ago, just to show how great the emulator was for SMT 3 already. I liked it, but desu, after playing Strange Journey(my favorite smt), I wished they would go back to first person view in the main series, I love first person view rpg(I'm a wizardry fag, after all).
