Silent hill bros, will we ever get a remake to this masterpiece?

Every single ps1 horror games (with very few exceptions) look like someone took a hot diarrhea on it. How did they manage to stand out?

Reread that again and ask yourself why it's necessary.

I wouldn't want it. They'd most likely turn it into a running man simulator with no weapons to use, one generic enemy, interesting features that sound good on paper like changing environments that are only used sparingly, and make a cookie-cutter twist where it was from the perspective of Cheryl missing her dad.

Most you will get from modern Konami is a pachinko machine (which I think they already have done with the series). Even if Konami was actually making video games, the original team is long gone and remakes are best done when the original creators are involved because they usually care about the product more than just milking out some easy money.

Kill yourself.

>> No.7690817

I'd like it, it's a dead franchise anyways that already has more bad entries in it than good ones.
Best case scenario, it's fun like REmake 1 and 2. It being bad or good doesn't cancel out the original, so go for it.

>> No.7690837

>>7690810
Literally every SH game from Origins onward was Konami whoring out the franchise to cheap studios for easy money.

>> No.7690872

>>7690837
It's a cheap IP that barely sold at its peak.
>>7690810
DIGITAL ENTERTAINMENT make up %70 of KONAMI's profits their mobile games, smaller indie switch games and PES those are the money makers for them.

>> No.7690884

Why does everything must have a remake nowadays? Unless the game is lost or it's unplayable on modern tech, just fucking play the original. Go create something new instead.

>> No.7690923

>>7690884
Being original is unironically a difficult thing to do. I can't fault a team for wanting to use a pre-existing IP as long as the originality comes from the execution. It's like with music remixes, allowing one artist to personalize and experiment with their take on a pre-existing song can still create quality music, even if it's derivative.
Not retro, but I liked that the resident evil 2 remake wasn't done like the RE1 remake was. I like that they tried something different with the gameplay using that IP and plot, and while I may not personally care for that style of gameplay I can appreciate that they went beyond updating the most easily-dated part of the game; graphics. I wish more remakes were like that. If they're too similar to the original, I'd usually rather just play the original.

>> No.7691010

Don't trash OP, his opinion is valid. A remaster would be interesting and better IP handling than the last what, 15 years since SH4? I don't wanna say a remaster would do justice to the game, but come on, it cant be worse than Scattered memories.

>> No.7691115

>>7690589
Shattered memories was a remake. I didn't like that crap.
A remaster or just an updated version with current gen tech would be nice but after seeing how incompetent they were with the HD Collection I'd be scared that they would ruin it somehow.
It ran its course, best to let it remain a classic.

>> No.7691232

I think this is in my top 5 PS1 games. I like SH2, 3, and The Room. But the original on the PS1 will always be my favorite game in this series. I think I have a copy. I find it interesting that Silent Hill was never ported to another console. It never appeared on PSN. Why is it so lucrative? If Sony ever makes a PS1 classic 2, they need this on the collection.

>> No.7691310

>>7690796
Shattered Memories was pretty good, definitely the best western SH game
Not as grat as first 4 and I didn't like simplified inventory and lack of combat but it was a nice experience with good story

>> No.7691313

>>7691115
It was a reimagining, not a remake
It's like calling Wii version of Goldeneye a remake

>> No.7691317

>>7690796
It's not even a remake the original concept doesn't mention a remake anywhere it's KONAMI that stuck "REMAKE" to the original concept and Climax agreed just to make their game and they did make their game calling it a remake is moronic it's hard to even call it a reimagining it borrows a few places and character names.

>Every single ps1 horror games (with very few exceptions) look like someone took a hot diarrhea on it.
Horror is arguably the genre where PS1 games aged best, because of the uncanny aura of low poly and/or the timeless painterly quality of pre-rendered screens, both creating amazing atmosphere.

>> No.7693017

The cruddy graphics and clunky controls are what makes it the best of the series
Also the old Konami died and the western studios would probably slap Pyramid head on it and Dark-Souls style combat to be hip.
Let it rest in peace. Sometimes, dead is better.
It has also been remade already as shattered memories

The "bad" graphics of 5th gen actually improved Horror games for me because I can't really tell what the hell I'm looking at so my imagination fills in the blanks and it's much scarier than if it was some uber realistically textured and high poly model.

Just play the fucking thing. Any remake will have shitty flash graphics and modern dual analog controls that will turn the whole experience upside down

Felt that when playing Silent Hill sometimes, where you can't quite make out the faces of some of the monsters. Gives it an interesting feeling. I guess that's why I hate upscaling and think it looks worse.

I doubt they will remake it but a true remake and not whatever that shit was on PS2/Wii could be amazing. It succeeded because of passion, not giving a fuck what Konami wanted and because they wanted to differentiate from RE.
