Hey /vr/troopers, I recently dug out my Genesis 2 and got really excited to play some retro. Unfortunately, it won't turn on at all. I opened up and nothing looks wrong, but I'm still pretty new to it all. Would anyone mind helping me out in knowing whether I should get a new AC Adapter or a new Genesis?

Sorry for the photo, took it from my phone.

I have the same problem on my Genesis2. Never soldered anything so I don't exactly know what to look up. Bump for relevance to interest.

I also found a Genesis 1 outside of some run-down house of people who got evicted. It doesnt turn on aswell but I'd rather fix my G2

My Genesis 2 has a problem where the AC port desoldered somewhat, so the plug to be pushed up with a book or something for it to turn on. See if it's not something like that. I hear it's actually a common issue with Model 2s.

This happened to mine. I fixed mine by taping the AC plug with the composite plug, so that the wire pushed into the position where it would stay on.

Eventually I just bought a model 1, (scored one for $20, TMSS, Hi def Graphics and best sound chip)

Yeah, I had a problem where the piece the AC adapter plugs into was loose. Just soldered it back down and it worked fine.

Hm, I tried to see if it was loose but it was pretty sturdy. Put both the plug and the port at different angles but still nothing. Maybe the old girl is just busted.

Are you sure you have the right adapter? The Model 1 had different polarity or something stupid like that.

I have an NES which uses the same power cables. At least they plug into the G1. But it does not turn on. When I had found it, it was just the console of course.

No no no no good lord no. Do not ever use an NES cable for anything but the NES.

The Genesis needs DC. The NES is strictly an AC adaptor and mixing the two can and will fry the unit or worse.

You should never experiment with plugs it can destroy components on the board. If you need a replacement plug check what the console is rated for first then look for a plug that matches those ratings.
