When I played Deus Ex for the first time in 2001 or so I didn't enjoy it all that much, I think I just wanted to get back to Diablo 2 so didn't really appreciate it.

Started playing it again last week and I can hardly put it down, it's a fucking fantastic game. I can't believe some people say it aged poorly, aside from the low poly graphics and shit textures that can be fixed with mods this game is stunning.

no, fallout 3 and oblivion don't use pre 2000 builds of their engines.

Deus Ex is basically UT99 with some added things that any noob could accomplish with scripting.

Did anyone play The Nameless Mod? I think it's the best mod ever.

>> No.753474

Deusbros, I need some help. I tried going up the Statue of Liberty but I keep getting killed. There's mines on the entrances and I waste all my ammo trying to hit 'em and the poison gas still damages me. I can get past the two guys in there, but the machine gun keeps killing me. Should I restart and talk to the homeless dude? I thought it was optional, so I didn't do that.

>> No.753494

>>753474
Disable the gas grenades before they explode, you don't need to shoot them. And your contact won't give you anything except telling you that the best way is to enter is from the back of the statue like you did.

>> No.753508

>>753494
I can disable them?! When I get close they just go off, do I gotta tase 'em?

>> No.753527

>>753508
no, when you get close enough to "select" them (white brackets around them) you press right-mouse and it disables them. You can then pick up the disabled mine and use it yourself.

Fucking amazing, everyone needs to play this fucking masterpiece. I allied with my homeboy Tracer Tong, I think I made the right choice.

Is there any other FPS that even compares to Deus Ex? I've heard that the sequel is complete shit.

>> No.754559

>>752679
The rules don't make any sense. You can discuss a PS1 game released in 2000, but not the PC port pf that game since it's NOT RETRO? That's how much sense that makes.

There should be another standard for PC, either according to engines or games optimized for Win98 or something.

For the 5th time.

Also I'm in the minority when I say my favorite part is Paris. I love that part so much, the music, the eerily quiet streets, the night giving the entire place a blue coloration. I only wish Paris had more.

In terms of cyberpunk-y stealth games, Metal Gear Solid is far superior.
