Is /vr/ a good place for videogame discussion?

No. It installs a keylogger using a txt executable.

Im gonna laugh when all the normalfags get their bank accounts nuked one day while also simultaneously getting the site shut down like emuparadise. This is why we gatekeep folks.

Vimm's Lair is the golden zone for emulation. Never had problems with it, very reliable and safe. Comfy aesthetic too. The only downside is you can only download one thing at a time and the servers are a bit slow but it's not a big deal.

There's another spot I use for stuff from other systems or from outside the US, if you're interested.

I tried downloading a
PS1 Emulator with a PS1 game to see if it works and I'm having trouble running it. What should i do?

>> No.7488640

I don't think there's any reason to use any retro video game emulation ARCHIVE out there, for the life of me I can't think of an ORGanization that just has everything available with no bullshit convenient to download. Theoretically if this site did exist one might have to dig a little to get to the real shit, but anyone good at some sort of site in which one might use to search the internet, if such a thing existed, would easily find huge ARCHIVEs of files appropriate for emulation ORGanized in a convenient way.

>>7488617
you need to download a ps1 bios and point the emulator to it. google "[your emulator] setup"

>> No.7488663

Downloading is very slow but thats not a problem if you dont get huge isos and just get /vr/. Also Vimm seems like a cool dude and I haven't gotten a virus yet.

I've been using vimm since the late 90s, it looks great exactly the same except for the addition of newer console roms. Stop posting about it here, I don't want them being notice by Nintendo and then obliterated

Archive.org has a massive selection but for 99% of people there's no point to using it.

Vimm's lair it's easier to find what you need. Unless you need something super obscure I don't really see a point to bothering with archive.org.

If both have everything you need, why not use the easier one?

If you look up Super Mario 64 on archive.org you’re flooded desktop wall paper, comic books, Unity props, and tons of that shit. When you look it up on Vimm’s Lair you just get the game. If you wanna feel superior by digging through shit to find what you want you can be my guest, though.

I'm guessing he's talking about a text file disguised as an executable e.g
>Readme.txt. ...exe
Which you should be wary of!
Coolrom still tries to sneak you a exe file occasionally, be very wary when your rom download site tries to send you a file called MarioBros.EXE
And not a zip file containing the usuals like (rom bin cue etc.)

Vimm's lair has never done anything sneaky in my experience, good when you know what game you want, but it's slower than downloading en masse from torrent

I've downloaded a shitload of disk images from the site. They do use modified gamecube images though and while I personally haven't run into any problems I still have Dolphin warning me about potential issues every time I use one of their disks.
